I think that one or more in that room couldn't be trusted to keep secret what they had seen. So, after the fact they went with plan B. The truth. I think a kill, not capture, order went into effect as soon as the helos lifted toward target. Also think that probably only one person in the room knew that a hit was going down.

Didn't they say that after he had already been shot, they shot him again to make sure he was dead? That seems to make it pretty clear what the goal going into the mission was.

Even if they planned it as a capture first mission, I don't think anyone would have expected Bin Laden to come out with his hands up.

Only one I have heard of is Pakistan. But that seems to be geared toward not telling them what was going on. Sucks being on the other end. I could care less what they think at this point.

I imagine his window to give himself up was extremely small. (as it should have been) He wasn't worth the slightest risk of injury or death in that situation.

I can see why we would claim it but letting the world know their grand leader took the cowards way out would also have its advantages. Personally I like the current story better
