Saban's time is coming to an end. Alabama's defense is no longer the dominant force it once was. Alabama's offense is not the juggernaut of yesteryear. Alabama has lost his star power and Saban's decline has begun. It all started when he lost Jeremy Pruitt to Tennessee.

They still have another great recruiting class coming in will be right back in the mix next year Saban needs to fix that D though.

When did they have a higher scoring offense? The lowest points they scored all year was 35 against UT and last years defense was very good. He lost a heisman QB candidate and still scored 40. Tweeks the defense just a little and he is right back in business.

Sadly I don't believe this is true. I think the real reason that the defense was not elite this was key injuries. With a healthy defense, the Bammers are undefeated. With or without Tua.
Eventually what will do in Satan is other coaches will use the "How much longer is going to coach" line. Recruits will start to get skiddish if they think Little Nicky might leave before they do. Happened to Bryant, Bowden, Spurrier, was happening to Patterno, etc.

Bama is still going to be good. This line of rationalization never pans out. This was simply a one-off year.

Once Saban actually leaves is when the drop-off will start to show. Even then, I think it will be similar to LSU post Saban. Bama will still be competing for championships for several years after, they just won't be as dominant.

Yeah..I don't see it. Bama will be dominant as long as Saban is there. Offensively they're still monsters...and if not for their QB going down they might win the NC again this year. I hate it...but it is what it is.

Not having to rely on 3rd stringers would be nice.

Relying on 3rd stringers and still going 10-2 must be a b**ch. LSU outright beat them. I am in the camp that would argue the refs helped Auburn win. So, 11-1, 10-2 with 3rd string players. Please.

Saban has never lost more than 2 games in a re-tooling year. From a coaching perspective, this was one of those years. If he had a true weakness on D, it was slow and young linebackers and DB's.

I will disagree that the DBs were slow and young. There is a ton of talent and experience in the secondary, and they way underperformed. The front seven can be justified with injuries, but not the back end. If there are any coaches that need to be fired this year, it should be Karl Scott and Charles Kelly. I'd give Pete Golding another chance unless Saban thinks he can bring in Charlie Strong at DC.

A little punctuation would have helped. I meant the linebackers were young and slow, for Bama LB's. The DB's just young, or out of kilter. It was obvious AU had them bewildered more than once, and that LB#5 I think couldn't catch too many that weren't right in front of him.

Most would agree his coaching staff finally took a hit and didn't reload as well as normal. This is the first season I've seen him lose coaches, and lose a step. Especially, on D.

And I really think it was the UT game that exposed him a bit. For where we were at that point in the season, we played Bama far better than we should have for a team that hadn't to that point found it's true stride.

Whoa man, with all due respect, put down the cough syrup. Bama's D is pretty dang dominant, even while playing 3rd string linebackers. Offense is definitely a juggernaut..no, no...a dreadnaught. And they got another top 5 recruiting class coming in. Sure, there are several teams that have closed the gap, but the Tide are still the standard that other SEC teams measure themselves by. They will start the 2020 season in the top 5 and will likely stay there until the SECCG. I'm as glad as anyone outside the state of Alabama that they aren't in the CFP conversation this year, but the path to the SEC Championship and, therefore, the CFP will continue to go through Tuscaloosa.

The tide will be dominant as long as the opposing teams have to play them and the referees. How many holding calls bama receive this season 1 maybe 2? Same thing with pros and the Pats, I personally believe our sport is as fixed as the WWF.

Unfortunately they’ll be back on track nxt year by experience or by a better coach. Probably both.
