In Jones’s first class, a JUCO TE by the name of Woody Quinn was brought in as a part of the first recruiting class. Some thought he’d be a bust because of his 2-star ranking. Others looked to other success stories like Antonio Gates and other NFL players. I just looked at the staff’s history.

He turned out to be pretty much a bust. Then the #1 JUCO OT Dontavious Blair never saw the field, even with a 4-Star rating. While Vonn Pearson was productive while healthy, most of the JUCOs of the Jones era were busts to journeymen. That, regardless of rating. Oh, and they almost screwed up Kamara. How?!?

Let’s hope this staff does better with JUCO players.

Don’t you think there is just as much a chance of JUCO guys becoming bust as anyone else.... the odds are obviously not in the odds of JC player only because we have signed so few imo

Quinn was recruited by Dooley and offer was upheld by Jones to be correct and let’s fave it he had pro size speed and athletic ability, he was just not a football player... let’s not knock him he gave his all for the vols as did Blair

Jones had no business ever signing a JUCO. His O system was so nuanced and "sophisticated" that even he said it would take OL's 3 or 4 years to develop and learn it.

P-5 systems simply cannot be that difficult unless the coach is an elite teacher and developer of talent. Jones probably thought he was... he wasn't.

Excellent. You created a dump so the Mods can collect all of the Woody Quinn trash that has been flung all over the RF and collect it in one meaningless pile. Good work!

Thought Dooley was responsible for the Woody Quinn experiment.

Think so, butch honored the offer and was part of his first class I believe... honestly it’s a dumb topic that people try to lump all JUCOs together, you could just as easily do so by high school, state or region of country... thread needs deleted

You were pretty intrigued and thought the new coaching staff could develop him. '13 CA TE Woody Quinn (UT signee)

On a serious note let's get some good out of this topic.

We KNOW Jones was awful at hitting on juco recruits. Some of us including myself are gunshy and don't feel like Pruitt needs to sign many of them in this class.

Are we biased against juco guys only because Jones sucked with them or does the nation as a hole have the same problem?

Would love to know if juco guys have higher success rates other places or is it always more misses than makes
