It's really good; I'm learning lots of stuff I didn't know about WWI and the leaders of WW2.

The guy playing young George Patton is Matt Dearman, a recent UTK grad and Knoxville resident and actor.

Hope to catch this if they re-air. Surprised that History channel took time away from conspiracy shows to air something worth watching.

Interesting. The History channel is implying that we(allies or WW1) basically gave birth to Hitler and ultimately what transpired. I had never heard that perspective before.

Watched the first part. Thought it was interesting. They didn't really imply that. It's historical fact that the victorious allies were incredibly vindicitve against the Germans during the formation of the treaty of Versailles. It basically gutted the German economy and created a lot of bitterness amongst the German people. It made it very easy for Hitler to manipulate the masses with promises of vengeance against those that wronged Germany. The poor conditions in Germany post WWI allowed him to connect with other people who felt similarly disillusioned and abandoned by the government.

I think the most surprising thing was the fact that private Henry Tandy could have shot hitler on the battlefield but he let him go. This is kind of disputed and not really confirmed as to have actually happen but it makes for
A really interesting story. One bullet could have changed the course of human history.

I had no idea that it took Germany until 2010 to finally finish paying the reparations imposed on them by the Treaty of Versailles.

Loved this. I'm a huge WW2 buff so anything dealing with that I'm a sucker to watch. History Channel did a good job as usual.

The part where they explained the encounter between Hitler and British officer Henry Tandey during WW1 where Tandey could've easily shot and killed him but let him go was crazy. I was never aware of that story. Imagine all of the atrocities and human lives that would have been saved had he killed Hitler. WW2 probably wouldn't have even existed.

My wife I and were discussing this - how in the world could they have proven something like this?? I'm assuming we're taking Tandey's word for it??

I was really impressed with it and not really surprised at anything it featured that I had not read or heard of.

I'm disappointed that they aren't featuring Eisenhower in this as well and brief mention of Gen. Pershing would have been nice.

I was really surprised that it featured some solid writer/historians in the interviews.

Just watched the first two episodes. I think it is really well done. Some of it really makes you think about how such big things can hinge on some of the smallest or dummest things.

Anyone notice the similarities of the current Ukrainian crisis and Hitler only wanting parts of Czechoslovakia that had the majority of German people living in it. They give it to him and he then takes the whole country.

Sorry. Hate to be that guy but....

They showed MacArthur with 5 stars in summer of 1941 and a jap destroy with radar arrays all over (the modern type not the old type spinning things)

How did that get past editing

The MacArthur thing was kinda dumb, but I can excuse the ship differences. This is the history channel, not some mega movie studio. Their just isn't that many images of older true WW2 era ships that would mach the video quality of the show, and I doubt they have the budget for a massive amount of CGI. There just isn't many options with out either falling back on grainy crappy 8mm news reel type footage that wouldn't fit the show, or God knows how much spent on CGI. Not when the image is only there for back ground anyways and not a real part of the story. Now if they started pointing out all the digital radar devices and missile banks and tried to say that was standard equipment I'd call BS too.
