Jerry Jones firing Jimmy Johnson as the Dallas Cowboys coach.

The second happened in Knoxville.

Before this is merged, Happy Thanksgiving to all the good folks of VN.

I agree, Dooley was the second worst fire in sports history.

Johnny Majors firing was justified, too, IMO. Many fans wanted him gone in '88. It got smoothed over during the next two seasons and then started up again with the loss to Arky in '92.

The second happenned in Knoxville because it was at least three years overdue. We rode the plane into the ground rather than bail out when it was time. Hopefully the next coach gets us back in the air again.

I agree that JM's firing was justified to a degree, but the way Dickey handled it was piss poor. Johnny's big ego didn't make him many friends in the admin, but his departure should have, and could have, been handled more respectably. The man is a UT legend and one of our all-time greats. Dickey took the opportunity for payback rather than take the high road. Just one more reason I am not a Dickey fan.

If you recall, Landry was having a down period (sound familiar) and then he was fired in a disgraceful manner (sound familiar)????

The biggest thing I remember was that I had been a Cowboy fan for life and Landry was my coach. Then, this ignorant and arrogant ******* came in and fired him. I lasted a few more years watching the NFL and finally quit it all together around '92. Landry is now dead and still loved by many and Jones is still a fat ass ignorant arrogant *******.

Yeah, not too many ways to gracefully fire someone.

I guess that Dickey, like all the other bosses, did what needed to be done. I liked watching Majors play football. Really liked that guy.

Doomsday....Lilly, Cole, White, Jones, Harris, Waters, Howley, Pugh, Lewis, Jordan. I may be mixing eras, but I too followed the Cowboys. Landry and Fulmer have several similarities. Loved by the fans, then want them gone, then hate the way it happened. And don't get me started on some of the calls. Baltimore (tipped pass) Florida Gaffney.
