Ok, first and foremost, I am not a DAWG fan. I bleed orange and white. Will somebody please tell me how the #1 preseason ranking became so screwed up? I will give Florida, LSU and even Ohio State(afterall they have been beaten by SEC teams in the BCS game the last 2 seasons) some respect. I dont know how a team that lost a combined 86-47 to the boys in orange from 2006/7 warrant that respect to be automatically considered a #1.

Lets break this down

UGA has Richt Vols have Fulmer- Vols have won a Natl title with Fulmer- Advantage VOLS

QB's Vols have Crompton and Dawgs have Stafford.
Although Crompton is highly heralded, and did a decent job being put into the fire in 2006 against Arkansas and LSU, I will have to give this one to Matthew Stafford, although without many proven targets, Crompton would take this category. I will asterisk this advantage *Dawgs

Running Backs
Ok I will give this one to UGAs Knowshown Moreno, although Arian Foster has a chance to break Travis Henry's alltime rushing record-Advantage DAWGS

Wide Recievers-
Vols have G Jones, L Taylor, Ahmad Paige, D Moore, Austin Rogers, etc etc UGA has, um well, do cheerleaders count? Advantage VOLS

Tight Ends-
I dont really know too much about UGA tight ends, but will have to say Brandon Warren, welcome to the SEC and welcome to TN. This guy is a monster, Jeff Cottam? Who is that? It has already been stated that Warren is doing great things. He also has his head on a swivel. Advantage-VOLS

Offensive Line-
Advantage VOLS enough said about the group bringing about every one back with the exception of one, who also gave up the fewest sacks in the nation last season.

Defensive Line-
There is a lot of talent on both teams, but I think I will give this to UGA, as UT will have to cast some unsung heroes as they do year in and year out. Great thing about UTs youth, they will only get better. Advantage for now-DAWGS

Linebackers- Well this seems a repeat from the DL unit, but Tennessee has one proven starter, Rico McCoy, and hopefully he will start where Jerrod Mayo left off, punishing quarterbacks and running backs.
I hope highly touted Chris Donald and Marlon Walls are utilized this season. That would be a beast of a LB core. Not since Ohio State had Hawk, Shlegel and Carpenter has there been that great of a LB tandem in all of College Football. Advantage for now* DAWGS

Secondary-
Vols have set the standard this season with the best secondary in the SEC if not the entire nation. Returning is youngster Eric Berry, who will only get better, and is being compared to a Natl Champ Vol, Deion Grant. Also returning is reinstated Demetrice Morley, who seems to have his act together. Brent Vinson, Marsalous Johnson, Antonio Gaines, DeAngelo Willingham and Dennis Rogan anchor the CB positions. There is lots of depth at this position, and if the Vols dare opposing QBs to beat them with their passing games, then the Vols might have a feast of interceptions this season.
Advantage-VOLS
Special teams-Advantage VOLS
Even though Britton "DUI" Colquitt is suspended for the first meaningful 5 games of the season, Chad Cunningham should provide futile as a temporary starter. Besides, Chad has had a great summer camp. He outpunted Britton in that scrimmage held a few weeks ago. Daniel Lincoln besides Auburns kicker, is by far the top 3 kickers in the SEC and is probably top ten in the nation. Mr Clutch enabled the Vols to beat SC and a last second nailbiter to Vandy. He helped ensure Fulmers presence for another season, that is for sure.
PR/KR- Advantage VOLS

So in closing, with UT being mediocre in the talent pool, but slowly regaining their talent of the 90s, how does one rate UGA, the underachievers of the SEC as a # 1 preseason pick? They have arguably one of the toughest skeds in the nation, have to play the SEC Beast(East), and then a few turds over in the Western Division, that spells a few Ls if you ask me. I think if they do cruise undefeated by the Oct 11 showdown with the Vols, UT being the always lovable underdog, will play over their heads, crushing UGA for a third straight year. I dont think if UT were go get ahead, UGA could come back strictly on the wheels of Moreno. Heres to wishing Mohammed Massaqoui a better year. Highly touted, severely overrated, just like those preseason #1 Georgia Bulldogs!!!

Please explain to me how they deserve it? They almost lost the last game of the season to a crappy GA Tech team and then played the most overrated team in BCS history in the bowl game.

They don't deserve it. They've gotten the props because the paint is shiny. No one is looking under the hood at the engine... like the OL, RB depth/experience, WR,....

BTW, can't buy your analysis on the RB's. Foster was only 200 or so yds behind Moreno last year while playing in a short pass O. Behind Moreno, UGA has youth and no experience. If you give a slight advantage to Moreno over Foster, you still have to say UT as a group.

Just saying based on the way they finished and the voting (messed up as it is) they deserve to be near the top. That being said I think preseason rankings are stupid and only there to sell magazines.

Many analysts expect Massaquoi to have a break out year now that he is playing for a big NFL signing bonus. UGA also has a Freshman named AJ Green who may be the next coming of Percy Harvin.

SJT18,

I wasnt saying anything negative about the Vols, I am saying that Moreno is UGAs bread and butter. My point to get across is the fact that UGA is HIGHLY overrated, and that they will have at least 2 losses this season.

LSU had 2 losses last year and won the National Championship. So what if they lose 2, they could still win the NC.

Massaquoi will have to learn how to hold on to the ball, first. Berry will eat is lunch this year.

AJ Green won't come close to Percy Harvin. UGA is where good WRs go to die. AJ Green lit up bad lowcountry SC defenses. Don't let that fool you.

Hopefully Stafford can't hit Green with blanket coverage and having to throw from his butt.

Please. If by saying he's injury prone like Percy, you might be correct.

Harvin has more carries than receptions. No way in hell will that be the case for Green. Harvin is an undersized speedster, Green is not undersized.

Won't be long now and UGA will suffer first of many upsets and "shockers". Georgia southern always plays them with a chip on their shoulder and I will be first to laugh out loud when Richt does his post game interview saying "Yes I think the preseason hype had a hand in our loss today, but it is early and we will get better"...

Please tell me how we almost lost that game that we won by 2 touchdowns

AJ will not be the next Percy Harvin. He is being compared to Randy Moss more than anything.
Tall, lanky and blazing fast.

Don't get my hopes up

Berry will drink his milkshake

that is possible the worst thing i have ever heard on this board

You are right its amazing how horrible he was. Forget that he was analyzed and scouted by people that do this for a living and he did it at camps against the top athletes in the country. He sucks:whistling:

So basically a guy who has been dropping balls, mis-running routes, blocks poorly, and basically hasn't performed anywhere close to his HS hype is assumed to be on the verge of a break out year just because prognosticators know UGA needs a WR?

If someone said that Bolden would have a break out year just because he sniffed some NFL money, you'd go nuts... but here you state it as a proof against their questions at WR?

First of all I dont believe in hype and you will not hear me boasting of anything. Secondly we were the hot team at the end of the year. We have the longest unbeaten streak of any top ten team. So you should expect the media to be pulling on our jocks whether it is warranted or not. If you believe it or offended by it that just remarks to your ignorance. Any knowledgable fan knows that the rankings are proven between the lines not in the papers or on the tv.

Sorry but you are thinking of his sophmore year. He had a solid year last year. His numbers arent great but he sticks his routes, is one of the better blocking WRs in the league. He is an intellegent kids that doesnt believe the hype. I cant believe you are trashing a kid that plays college athletics with heart and soul (a gift and privilege that you probably have never known)

I'm definitely not saying GSU will win because they are having problems right now but they did beat App State last year, and @ App St. if I'm not mistaken.

Realistically, take away Knowshown and what does GA have? This kid must produce and carry the team on his shoulders for an entire season. I truly believe that as goes Knowshown so go the Dawgs. And, without looking can anyone tell me who the backup RB is for GA?
