Well, see all those trees in the background? Pretty much all of them would be cut down, and the rest would be in bad shape from root damage during sidewalk replacement. Plus many more not included in the pic.

Obviously they’re all gonna die one day, and full-sized sugar and red maples should never have been planted in the tiny spaces between curb and sidewalk. But we are asking the city to delay sidewalk renovation until we can get decent-sized replacement trees planted in yards and well-established. Losing 30+ trees all at once would destroy the character of the street, not to mention the loss of shade, plus habitat for wildlife.

Don’t know where the witches were this year. We had a Star Wars group with an X-wing fighter on a Segue.

And I’ll have you know that I managed to attach all those damn maple garlands in such a way that I could still use the bathroom!! —changing a diaper was a bit tricky tho
