Good luck in the new job. I have enjoyed your post game reports. I know you are tremendously disappointed in how the season has gone but I'm optimistic better days are ahead. The UT AD has to see now that when you are competing with big boys, you have to hire the very best you can get and pay for that expertise.
How many ways can you lose a game?
First, I won't blame the TO called on the loss. Most who do are the same ones who have *****ed and moaned all season in games when Martin doesn't call a TO to setup a play. That was just unfortunate absence of luck. And perhaps it sums up the CCM era.
-8 missed FTs
-14 TOs
-3 of 15 from 3-point line
-allowing aTm to shoot 59% in the second half
-0 bench points
-awful PG play
Pick one. They just don't know how to win, and this is looking more and more like the third year of the Dooley football era. It really can't end soon enough. I'm not one to call for a coach's job three years in because it generally looks bad to prospective replacements to have an AD with a quick trigger, but in this case, as in Dooley's, it is just apparent that improvement hasn't been shown.
If you were still in denial about the abysmal nature of our team defense, look no further than what you saw today. Sure, it was ugly offensively on both sides. Both sides play boring slow-tempo offensive styles, but aTm got open look and open cut to the basket almost any time they wanted while we found ourselves buried into the final seconds of the shot clock on numerous occasions.
Stokes and Maymon were bright spots, but underutilized yet again. A combined 32 points and 29 rebounds is impressive for those guys.
Thompson and Barton were awful.
This is a Sweet 16 team with Trae Golden at point. Also, it's not that Bozo took a timeout, it's that he took it with 2 seconds left instead of 12 seconds left. In other words, he had no plan and he panicked.
Not trying to be an ass, but at what point did you turn? I turned on Dooley after Uk and Martin after the NIT debacle last year. You have been quite chestily defending him much of the last 2 years.
I am have been offered to work for a local baseball team. This will take up my time for the rest of the Spring and so I cannot continue doing the reports. I love doing them but it's not doable and fair to do one or two the rest of the year. I will still be around and hang with you guys. Just can't do the reports. So I leave you with one more thought.
1. Coach Martin needs to be fired as soon as the season is over. I like the guy, but he not the man for the job here.
We have the benefit of hindsight now. If the team piddled around and never got a shot off, we have a mutiny on our hands because he took his TOs home with him.
I think it's become obvious that it is CCM's policy to let his guys play it out at the end of games (whether you, I, or anyone else agrees with it). He decided taking a TO was better than the potential alternative of a turnover or not getting a decent look.

Go ahead

Trae golden has never made the tournament or led his team to even an nit win. Wont make nit this year. Martin has never made the tourney. Why the hell would one think one average player that has never taken a team anywhere coached by a below average coach would be in the sweet 16? We had two games of 40 points with those two together last year.
by and large, dooley lost to teams that were nationally ranked and well respected throughout the country.
yes, i know there was kentucky. i know there may be others. but, for the most part, again, the losses came to well respected, nationally ranked programs with a lot of talent.
in addition, dooley did not have a much talent to work with. now, he was responsible for acquiring talent, but he didn't have it.
a football coach also needs his staff a lot more than a basketball coach and his staff failed him.....hello sal.
zo's scenario is different. zo is coaching in a dog **** league. zo, has talent. there may not be a better guard-forward duo in the league than mcrae and stokes.
so, dooley....lack of talent against a premier schedule.
and zo.......talent against the weakest power conference in the sport.
i have more sympathy for dooley. and that's saying something.
