We beat the Kentucky Kittens in Lexington just about as easily as in Knoxville. Here's proof:
1979 to 1991 - Johnny Majors beat the Wildcats in their own stadium six different times. Ouch.
1993 to 2007 - Philip Fulmer never lost to Kentucky. That includes eight, count 'em, 8, trips to Lexington. Heh.
2009 - He was barely our head coach a week, and yet Lame Kiffin was still able to take Kentucky down at their home, 30-24 (in OT)
2013 and 2015 - Butch Jones brick-by-bricked the Wildcats in their own house--sorry, I mean grocery store--twice...one game 27-14, the other 52-21
2019 - cornbread lover Jeremy Pruitt went into Kentucky and brought home a win, 17-13
2021 - with a decimated roster, Josh Heupel marched into Lexington and beat the #18 Wildcats, 45 to 42. Ouch for them, that was "their year"
I could've gone back even further (for instance, Bill Battle went to Lexington and brought home a W three times in his moderately brief tenure), but it's kinda all Vols just about as far as the eye can see.
For those counting them up, yes. With one doofus of an exception, every single Tennessee head coach in the modern era has beaten Kentucky at their place. Often, they did so repeatedly. Almost always, in fact. Right at 90% of the time (18 of the last 20 in Lexington).
We're gonna stomp them in Aisle 15 of the Lexington Kroger mart this Saturday. Not only because we're the better team with better talent and better coaches. But also, it's a tradition.
Go Vols!
