Go spend a little time in Texas and listen to them talk about the Longhorns and the Cowboys for 15 minutes and you will hate them as much as I do too. Nobody knows anything about their teams, its just blind Texas love cause they think everything Texas is better than everything else. Worst fans in America tied with California football fans (USC & UCLA).

My sister-in-law lives in Texas. She's a big Tennessee fan. She says Texas believes they will come in and dictate everything that happens in the SEC. Their fans are that arrogant and determined to get their way. Oh and Horns down will not be allowed according to Texas fans.

Their fans haven't bumped into Southern pride yet. We're courteous, but the worse thing you can do is show up, presuming to put on airs. I do believe we invented running folks out on a rail, and tar and feathering.

Had season tickets to UCLA in late 80s during Troy Aikman years. Totally different fan base and atmosphere. Wine and cheese pregame on municipal golf course fairway around the Rose Bowl. The “eyeball liberty” for a UCLA-USC game was unparalleled.

And been to many venues for Tennessee away games. Texas A&M by far the best experience. They are a bit cultish but hate the whorns!

California and Texas sports have very isolated markets due to geography. Texas is separated by vast space and less dense population regions from the rest of the US, and an innate arrogance carrying over from the old oil money days. California is separated by two time zones and the Rockies from the rest of the country and still has some luster from the Hollywood heyday of the 20th century. Both are like nations unto themselves culturally. When you are there, you notice they are not covering the rest of the US much.

They each have their own sports media ecosystems that are self-feeders.
The B1G is in the heart of the sports media centers and biggest markets, and have outsized coverage. The SEC is in secondary media areas and the teams that aren't UGA and Bama struggle for national media coverage.

Can you imagine fans at Neyland or TBA not doing the 'horns down' throughout games against Texas? What the hell kind of oversensitive crap is that about, anyway? And they can get the league to penalize players for making an innocent hand gesture? I can't imagine too many SEC fan bases are going to abide by that idiocy.

It was huge when I was there in 2022. Town would have 50 same people then saturday population would go up 1000% for a day we'd joke how only day you'd see the golden doodle and subarus was Saturday there, I'd know it was busy there bc I'd be passing tourist on every dashed line in the 5.0
