These things happen (Vandy blowout)

Not trying to speak for him, but my feeling is that the Original Poster was not suggesting that astrology as a science played a viable role in last night's result. But for lack of better phrasology -and I'm speaking for myself now - sometimes the stars do line up. In other words, teams, for a recipe of reasons you can't put on paper or in words, sometimes play way above their heads. It's not an excuse, and to be sure, Tennessee contributed plenty to the nightmare with their own uninspired play. But sometimes, yes, the stars line up. You don't think they lined up the night we beat KU? With that lineup we put on the floor? Play that game 99 more times and see how many times we get the same result.

Their depth certainly makes them a better overall team, especially against teams in our situation. If you are talking about individual players then I would probably agree with you. They don't have any great players but depth more than makes up for that IMO.

I have been meaning to ask you what you thought about their shooter from Station Camp High School north of Nashville, I cannot remember his name right now.

I disagree. I thought the '07-'08 team was much better. Ogilvy is as good now as he was then, and Foster was a hell of a player and clearly better than anyone Vandy has now.

I'm so sick and tired of threads like this where the OP pretty much does a shoulder shrug and acts like there wsa nothing in the world the Vols could have done to avoid this embarrassment.

I guess if you count out playing better offense, playing better defense, better shooting, better FT shooting, and better rebounding, then yeah....the Vols couldn't do anything to avoid the beatdown they got.

There WAS nothing the Vols could have done. A fired up Vandy team in that ridiculous "end zone" gym? Ever wonder why the ncaa doesn't allow that set-up anymore? Akin to playing Boise on the "Blue Turf".

Umm, UT has been playing bad pretty much since the Kansas game. Sure we've won, but the problems still existed and the Ws had more to do with the level of teams we have been playing (i.e. bad).

Not to mention Vandy already beat us in Knoxville, so again how this becomes a "they were playing lights out" game is beyond me. They're just better than us and it shows.

So now you're blaming the gym...that's been around only about 50 years now and we play there EVERY year. We are REALLY reaching now.

The whining about the gym only comes out when we get embarrassed there. Just get over it, it's pathetic to whine about that.

This game was decided by the Refs!!!!! We were not allowed to play as tough as they were. We got whistled every time and they rarely had a foul against them.

43 FT!!! Are you kidding me!! and 38 made lol

We definitely should have lost the game because of the way we played but they would not have won by that much if they game was called FAIR

Contradict yourself much? So which is it, the refs decided the outcome or we would have lost anyway?

Vandy beating anyone last night? Someone's not been watching much college basketball. Watch Syracuse, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Georgetown & those Big East teams, then tell me the commode-doors could stay with 'em. NOT! Vols just stunk up the place last night; first ten minutes were pure puke in regard to effort, strategy & skills.

Or any basketball player ever. I'm starting to think this is your first year following basketball.

I'm starting to think you don't actually even watch college basketball. Yes...every player in history has always thrown a hissy fit after being called for a foul.

No whining here, I don't really care enough to whine. The court is a real dis-advantage---ask any SEC team. Bruce calls his plays from the sidelines---hard to do when you are 90 feet away. Ask Don Devoe what he thought of Vandy's court.
My fav Vol sports are FB, FB recruiting, Sp. FB then BB. So I ain't losing much sleep over Vandy.

Definitely the refs. Pearl coached teams don't commit fouls. Just ask Steven Pearl.

Ride that horsey. A high % of players NEVER foul. 1/3 of fouls called are Questionable. Lay off SP. I watch the games like everyone else, don't have an AGENDA, so I don't rag on SP.

I'm referring to the fact that he gripes to the refs EVERY TIME he is called for a foul. Since you seem to know me, what's my agenda?

Yea, it's so shocking every year. The gym's only about 100 years old. Somehow, I think the opposing coaches have caught on by now. And if you don't care enough to really have an opinion, then why do you?

Also, I would like to see this list of players who have never committed a foul.

Exactly, some people act like it's some new revelation that Vandy's gym is weird, and for some reason it's only a problem when we lose. Most of us got over it years ago.

Yeah, it is a neat (or ugly) gym. And our ugly play would be just as bad a loss in my high school gym.

It's easy for the other team to look like world-beaters when you are having trouble drawing iron.
