I'm a huge nerd and was looking forward to the new Batman series. I turned it off less than ten minutes after I realized they made penguin trans. Why must they drastically change my beloved childhood characters?

It's a gamble that the brand can attract more new, young fans than it will lose old ones.

It's so low effort. I don't mind that this Penguin is a woman, but they could've at least cared enough to not just take Oswald and slap an A onto the end

They made Penguin a woman, not trans 🙄

It’s an odd choice, especially considering there is a live action show based on the Matt Reeves version.

Anyhow, I watched the first two episodes and if you get past the physical changes of some characters, they were well written and animated.

Some great comic writers are working on the show. Guys that know Batman like Greg Rucka and Ed Brubaker. Plus it’s Bruce Timm’s vision.

I love Batman, esp Dark Knight version. Loved the cartoon. Even loved Frank Miller too, was great until dbag Affleck and Pattinson. Could NOT give one flying **** on a rats ass that Penguin is was will be a woman. Cannot wait to share this show with my kids. Theyve finally gotten it right.

I really liked Pattinson's Batman and I think it was the closest comics accurate version we have got in live action. We'll see how/if they develop the Bruce Wayne part in the sequel into the playboy persona?

Huge fan of Batman The Animated Series as I grew up on those episodes and imo best superhero cartoon ever made.

Haven’t made it through all 10 episodes but so far hit and miss. Overall solid but the episodes that dabble in mysticism/magic doesn’t work very well with this Batman.

Enjoy the Bruce Timm touch on the series though.

I’m on episode 5 and love the aesthetic but I’m having a hard time with how some of the characters are being portrayed.

Like the way Dent is coming off as a sleazy politician for instance. Or Bullock being somewhat of a dirty cop (although I feel like they are setting him up to come around later).

Then there is Harley. On one hand it’s kinda neat they are giving her some agency and making her a threat on her own. On the other hand the goofy irreverent personality of the original Harley is what made her so much fun.

Def enjoy the breath of fresh air. But 90's show is goat.

Show seems pretty good so far to me despite my fury at them making Gordon black and the Penguin a woman.

It's almost like it doesn't matter at all if the show is quality. Imagine that.

It reminds me when people were pissed (nobody here, I don't think) that the new April O'Neil is black. The movies that had her as a redhead that sucked sucked, and the one that was good was good. The one movie where she's black is good, and none of this has anything to do with her appearance.

And this is the original April O'Neil

Unless the sarcasm is going over my head, your “fury”?

I take it you were outraged when Jeffery Wright played Gordon in the last movie?

April is different in every version of TMNT.

Even in the comics there was a discrepancy between Eastman and Laird.

Eastman based her off his girlfriend at the time who was biracial, but Laird interpreted her as white. Laid also doesn’t care how she appears in the newer versions because her race is not core to the characters role in the Turtles lives, which is more or less only to serve as a human anchor to the world.

Same could be said for Gordon. In the 1940s most (if not all) police commissioners were probably white. But that hasn’t been the case for probably 40 years. Gordon’s race has never been an integral part of his character. He is just the anchor to the police force for Batman.

Yeah, two face would’ve made much more sense. Half man, half woman. I’m kidding of course.

Penguin as a woman might as well be a tranny….its like Rosie O’Donnel starring as Sleeping Beauty …. Its just wrong

Cuz e’rythang gotta be gay in 2024
She isn’t gay. In fact she has two sons. One of which she brutally murders.

Penguin has always been one of the weakest of Batman’s rogues gallery. It’s the same reason Tim Burton turned him into some type of deformed mutant.
