'They're in a deep, deep hole': Inside the 6-year unraveling of Florida State football

Yep.

What's strange about FSU is that their admin and boosters behave as though they are at a school that has a total lack of football history, or there is great uncertainty that investments in football will pay off. It's almost like they think they are Vandy or something...afraid they don't have the money, or afraid that the investments won't pay off, or that the investments made in football will torpedo some other endeavor they are working on.

That kind of attitude would make sense at a small private school, or at a school with no football history. It doesn't make sense at FSU.

Their fans are a lot like ours.
They want another title yesterday
They don’t want to wait
They want to fire at the first sign of trouble
So can you honestly blame them?

They've been like that with Taggart and Norvell, but this whole mess seems to have started with pissing off the national championship-winning coach they had before those guys. Before they started winning, Clemson was not a financial juggernaut either, but they've given Dabo what he's asked for. That could have been FSU.

Like I was saying earlier Jimbo might be an a-hole and probably handled the situation poorly, but the kind of stuff he was asking for doesn't sound unreasonable. He wanted facility upgrades and staff pools that were commensurate with other top programs. It isn't like he has asking for stupid, off-the-wall stuff.

True, he earned a lot of that while he was there and he still should be had they handled it correctly.

Given some of the things we know going on in Jimbo’s family life during his stint in Tally I don’t think it would take a helluva lot to move on to a comfortable place looking to make a splash and willing to throw around a lot of oil $$. He probably needed a fresh start to go along with his frustrations with the FSU power brokers.

Spurrier and Bowden were the same way evidently. They were both thinking let’s win and not worry about this paint and carpet. It helped them both that they were alike.

I don't think Bobby gets enough credit for his record against Spurrier. He went 8-4-1 against him.

Spurrier was a great coach in his own right, and an awesome Xs and Os offensive guy, Bobby didn't split those games evenly with him. Of course Bobby also had a head start on building his program relative to Spurrier.

Yeah his ex-wife was fooling around with her personal trainer, former UF wide receiver Taylor Jacobs.

It was one of the worst kept secrets in Leon County.

Fisher won a National Title at FSU in 2013. We haven't even sniffed an SEC title game since 2007, and haven't won the conference since 1998 with our last NC.

I'd say the fan bases are in much different places, even with their recent woes.

It boils down to them getting comfortable. Whether that them is players, admin, or boosters.

We won this way in the past it's how we will win in the future.

It also sounds like a thin booster pool is split on their wants and after the one guy died that unified voice was lost.

At FSU that’s the expectation no matter who the coach is or the record.

Bowden owned Spurrier like Spurrier owned Fulmer, with the notable exception of that 52-20 Sugar Bowl beat down for our first national title.

I have the utmost respect for Bobby Bowden and what he built at FSU. We will likely never see that again in CFB.
