Hoops Recruiting Chatter--The Selby Rumors Addressed

I hinted last weekend in response to some of your questions that Tennessee--and assistant coach Steve Forbes in particular--have never fallen out of contact with Selby or his mother Maeshon Witherspoon.

From our perspective, that’s not entirely true and as of now I believe that Tennessee is very much in the mix again.

but the fact of the matter is there is some activity going on with Selby and Tennessee and my firm belief that there is interest on both sides.

One thing that is a strong indication that the Vols are back in it in a big way is that Bruce Pearl and Forbes are on their way to Baltimore right now to watch Selby play tonight.

The trip itself isn’t unusual, but what is unusual is the timing. I could probably count on one hand the number of times Pearl has missed practice and turned it over to an assistant the day before leaving for a road game. In my estimation, given the significance of the Mississippi State game at this point in the season, there’s no way Pearl makes the trip tonight the Vols aren’t in serious contention.

It’s also my understanding that Tobias Harris has also reached out to Selby to discuss playing together in Knoxville.

I think that Tennessee is back in it in a serious way and will be a factor coming down the stretch.

Okay, assuming this article is correct.... if we are back in things with Selby, will we still pursue Moses Abraham?

With the rumors that Renaldo is out after this year will that provide the scholly space to still go after both?

Further, if we end up with Tobias, JM, Golden, Selby AND Moses (obviously still a very long shot) how would that class rank??

Would rank very, very high.

Well, we're at no. 4 right now. Add Selby 5*, and Abraham, another 4* would give us 2 - 5*'s and 3 - 4*'s. Could turn out to be No. 1, would certainly keep us in the top 3 or 4. Seems like we were close to that 4 years ago. Ramar & Duke were 5*'s, and I think Wayne and the other guard that tranferred to NC State were 4*s, and Tabb a 3*. Look how that worked out for us.

Duke and Ramar weren't really ranked as high as Selby and Harris though. They were both on the 4*/5* edge, while Tobias and Josh are elite talents in the class.

selby is ridiculous. i was majorly bummed when he decommitted. i hope we get him back, regardless of the perceived attitude problems. i think his decommitt had to do mostly with his mom anyways(like marlon brown and gma).

whatever the case. If we get him we will beat Kentucky and get coach Cal in two ways. We win the game and we steal back a recruit he stole.

This would be great Selby and Harris could be like a Wall Cousins effect. In no way am i comparing them but Selby is on both of Tobias's Teams in the Mcdonalds and jordan games.Selby also missed his Uk and UCONN vist's so we might have a good chance and it helps we beat Kansas.

Kentucky is one of 3 schools in contention for Brandon Knight - the #1 PG. The "experts" think that he will go to Kentucky. If so, Calipari wouldn't really be losing out on Selby

There were rumors this week the Knight was not considering Kentucky anymore. The feel I got, which obviously could be wrong, is that Knight was ready to give his commitment and Cal wasn't ready to take it for one of three factors:

Cal is going to try to convince Eric Bledsoe to stay another year and doesn't know where he's leaning.

Knight is more of a traditional point and not a dyanamic, scoring point like Evans, Rose, and Wall.

The second point probably wouldn't be that big of a factor, but I don't think Cal knows where he stands with Selby, who is scoring point, and didn't want to shut out Selby by accepting commit from Knight.

*That was my feel, but of course, I could be wrong*

No good statement but I think knight is overrated the guys that I think will have the best careers are selby and kyrie irving and Bledsoe would be making a terrible choice if he left he needs one more year.

Cal also coould be looking at KY's APR, and the hit they would take if they lose 4 players this year. It would be in their best interest to keep Bledsoe from this perspective. By the way, anyone know how many , if any Scolly's KY could possible lose?

BTW, if we land Abraham and Selby, that is definitely the #1 class IMO. I would love to have Selby, he would make an immediate impact. If Woolridge leaves and Pearl doesn't give McBee a scholly (he doesn't deserve it anyways), than we would have room for both these guys.

I think that if Pearl doesn't give McBee a scholly like he promised, then some fans will be pretty upset. But I'm not saying I think that he deserves one...

Wasn't aware that he promised anything.
