You have your days off without pay, but every June they give you a check for a percentage of what you earned the prior year. It's a nice lump, and works out perfect for spending money.

Thats a nice way of doing it -- just have to be savy with it and I bet some guys are not

True. Just gotta keep in mind if you go somewhere for a week, that you're not getting a check for that week!

I'm happy that I returned to the sky, yesterday. I accompanied to the drop zone two bike riding pals who were making birthday tandem skydives. I donned a sports rig loaned to me by the DZ owner and joined their flight, performing a two-way drill dive with a unoccupied staff member. My friends got to see me exit before they did.

The staff member joining me wanted to deploy his parachute at 6K' above ground level (it was new, and he wanted to play with it awhile), so our drill was abbreviated. We made 9 formation variations (points). I flat-tracked for a few seconds and deployed at 4k' AGL. The canopy that I was flying was very similar to my own main parachute, so a few simple tests of its flair and turn characteristics was all I needed to do before guiding it to land.

It was a truly fine day.

I am happy that 35 years ago today, HBPW and I Married.

I'm even happier, 35 years later, that she can still stand me. :)
