Ever been to Venice, Italy. Every road is shaped like an apostrophe. They start out about 15' wide and gently curve to a 6-8' wide dead end.This isn't some sage quote or anything but in The Risk Pool, Richard Russo had this great description of the winding roads in a certain part of town:
"The streets... turned around and in upon themselves, as if they'd been laid out by a drunk and then paved by a man who understood him perfectly."
