Think about this

Im sure that is the furthest thing from Charlie Strongs mind. I'm willing to bet that if Strong is hired, it will be one of the talking points by media though. Being the first African American to be hired as head football coach here at Tennessee will be bigger than most want to admit. Firsts usually draw a lot of attention.

Rather draw attention for winning than being politically correct.

It ought to be possible to talk about race like grownups. Maybe for most of you it's not. But we're not going to just delete everything about it preemptively.

Like its grown up to deem a person a racist if they don't want a coach that happens to be black. I guess its beyond the realm of possibility to just not want him because of his coaching ability or lack there of.

It's very possible to not want him here cause you think he can't coach. That's fine. It's also naive to think that race is not a factor for some.

Whatever. Race is an issue because some people won't let it go and make it an issue. Its these people that are the racist.

Ok, well you can believe what you want. But if you want to meet up I will drive you down to meet some people who are racist. Can find them within a 20 mile radius of UTs campus. Again, naive to think its not happening.

I grew up 50 miles south of Knoxville in a town called Madisonville. I went to highschool from 1989-1993. Race was not a big issue. There will always be a select few people in life that are racist, both white and black. Slavery was abolished before we were born, let it go, we have grown as a country. I have spent a lot of time around Ktown, and race is not and issue. I'm sure you can find a select few racist everywhere, both white and black.

I thought Strong was American, had no idea he was born in Africa.

So we agree, race is an issue for some.

Btw I'm white, grew up 10 minutes from campus and hadn't met an African American until I was 11. Luckily I was raised proper and know to treat everyone the same. Can't say the same for others I was raised with unfortunately.

Go read in some of the Strong threads where posters talk about how they don't want him because he's got a chip on his shoulder about being black. About how they'd prefer Jim Mora (or even Kirby Smart) because they don't think Strong's got enough experience. You're kidding yourself if you don't think race is an issue at all for some people, whether they'll admit it to themselves or not.

The point is who cares? It's not 1969 hell if I was Strong and someone said you can be the first AA coach we've ever had I would tell them to shove it up their azz for even thinking that way.

With Our Fan Base.....I wouldn't come!! If Charlie doesn't get it done here the fans would be horrible...His family don't need that. Charlie Strong don't need that.

Don't be an idiot. Grownup people can talk about race without ipso facto being a racist. The issue is out there whether you like it or not. If you're not smart enough to recognize the undercurrent in a few idiots' comments about Strong for what it is then I don't know what to tell you.
