Rather draw attention for winning than being politically correct.Im sure that is the furthest thing from Charlie Strongs mind. I'm willing to bet that if Strong is hired, it will be one of the talking points by media though. Being the first African American to be hired as head football coach here at Tennessee will be bigger than most want to admit. Firsts usually draw a lot of attention.
It ought to be possible to talk about race like grownups. Maybe for most of you it's not. But we're not going to just delete everything about it preemptively.
Like its grown up to deem a person a racist if they don't want a coach that happens to be black. I guess its beyond the realm of possibility to just not want him because of his coaching ability or lack there of.
Whatever. Race is an issue because some people won't let it go and make it an issue. Its these people that are the racist.
Ok, well you can believe what you want. But if you want to meet up I will drive you down to meet some people who are racist. Can find them within a 20 mile radius of UTs campus. Again, naive to think its not happening.
I grew up 50 miles south of Knoxville in a town called Madisonville. I went to highschool from 1989-1993. Race was not a big issue. There will always be a select few people in life that are racist, both white and black. Slavery was abolished before we were born, let it go, we have grown as a country. I have spent a lot of time around Ktown, and race is not and issue. I'm sure you can find a select few racist everywhere, both white and black.

So we agree, race is an issue for some.
Btw I'm white, grew up 10 minutes from campus and hadn't met an African American until I was 11. Luckily I was raised proper and know to treat everyone the same. Can't say the same for others I was raised with unfortunately.
Go read in some of the Strong threads where posters talk about how they don't want him because he's got a chip on his shoulder about being black. About how they'd prefer Jim Mora (or even Kirby Smart) because they don't think Strong's got enough experience. You're kidding yourself if you don't think race is an issue at all for some people, whether they'll admit it to themselves or not.
and you would be one of the few as well.
