This game tells it all!!!

They commit 10 penalties again. Nico looks like a deer in headlights this week then Josh will start to feel what the pressure cooker of this conference really is. UF really isn't the ideal team considering the history to get everything right against. They'll be ready like usual.
He looked like a Q B who was attempting to survive a killing by a defensive line. The last two games just failed to play decent football. It is. Wonder that our entire backfield isn not on the injury reserve list.By the way the Oline includes that TEs.

I don’t think he’s learned because he’s called ultra conservative games multiple times now. Florida and Missouri last year. Ok and Ark this year. Not sure why he keeps calling bi-polar games like this.
Curious also no real QB runs, making them account for another runner. Also, I really think we could use TE's alot more for shorter seam passes/hot passes.

CJH loses to Sunbelt Billy... at HOME... his seat warmer officially fires up, IMO. There is ZERO reason to lose to an average (at best) UF team at home. We have the talent to win this one by dbl digits just like last week. But we all know how that turned out.
I agree lose to Florida and the burner starts to turn, lose to Florida, Bama, Kentucky, and vandy, volnation will have the biggest meltdown

I just hope the AD is stressing to Heupel that this is a must win game, or else there will be some assistant coaching changes at the end of the season that Heupel won't get to pick.

This is just my opinion, but I think the "vanilla" offense talk is just that, all talk. To me, it's a crutch... an excuse, and a poor one at that at this point.

Teams have studied the film on Tennessee the last 4 years. If they have an above average D coordinator and even a mediocre dline, they've figured out how to shut this offense down. Without a running game, this offense is lethargic. OU and Arkansas were getting to Nico rushing 3 dudes. They were also stuffing the run all night like they knew it was coming. 2022 was special in that Hooker was able to make the opposing defense pay dearly with his legs. Teams knew it was coming, and still couldn't stop it. Milton, and so far, Nico haven't been anywhere near as effective at doing that. Hooker was able to carve up defenses no matter if they were spying him or not. I don't think people appreciate just how special of a player Hooker was in this offense. I believe he was also in his 6th year in college at the time vs Nico in year 2 of his college experience. That's a HUGE difference that this fanbase needs to take into account. There's no substitute for in game experience. The other huge difference from 2022...Jalin Hyatt. You can't often reproduce the speed of someone like Hyatt. We had a guy that could get open simply by outrunning everyone else on the defense. It doesn't seem like we really have that kind of threat right now.

I could be wrong about all of that, but here's one thing I think we can all agree on. The Oline needs to man up and stop getting punched in the mouth. If they get bullied like they did against OU and Arkansas, we're in for a long night on Saturday.

Don’t forget boys that we have Deboer’s former main man on defense now with us - Mr. Inge.

I agree with you. I don't see playoffs in our future. It is like the Jim Mora interview. "PLAYOFFS?" "PLAYOFFS?" Play--offs?"

When I saw the Vols rated #4, I told a friend that I didn't believe they were even #4 in the SEC. I had them behind 'Bama, Texas, GA, A&M and KY. Now, I worry about Vandy, too. We have promise but we have a redshirt Freshman starting at QB. On Saturday, he made a lot of Freshman mistakes. Our Secondary is suspect. Our defensive front is as good as any in the Country. The O-line looks over-matched against SEC competition.

Some believe JH was too conservative. I believe he has to, if he wants to take the pressure off Nico. I love to see a good ground game. 'Bama and the 'Dawgs have used grinding ground attacks to set up the "dagger" TD to a wide out. I believe JH wants to follow that pattern. I am not going to get down on him for the loss to the Razorbacks. It is SEC Football. The Vols have sprung a few surprises of their own in the past. The key is to regroup and kick some 'Gator butt.

It is play calling. 3-5 yard slants, passing to RBs, and TEs totally fix these issues. Develops QB confidence, off-sets the blitz situation and puts pressure on defense to play up and stop blitzing so heavily opening up the field, etc.

We have issues on offense but there are plays to address those issues that Heupel is NOT calling. This seems to be a common issue at Tennessee. We are allergic to using RBs and TEs consistently in the passing game and we are allergic to running quick slants and curls. This was even the case in the Butch Jones and Fulmer era (I am not calling out Dooley and Pruitt because neither coach fielded a team that was worth a d*mn anyways. There issues were beyond just play calling).

If you figure out how to, let me know. I’ve tried before and it doesn’t take.

I remember not even watching the BYU vs Tennessee game after that Georgia State loss. I went to go see a movie with the wife.

The 2017-2019 period was probably the roughest as a fan. Pruitt gave us a slight amount of fools gold with how he ended the 2019 season and started 2020 but that went up in flames the second half against Georgia (who we were beating in 2020) and collapsed totally when UK destroyed TN at home.

I would say that 3-4 year period was probably the period that made me want to quit as a Tennessee fan. I don't think that I watched many Tennessee games in 2020 after that UK loss.

It is Florida's SuperBowl. They will play their best game of the year on Saturday. We, just have to be better!

Possibly but that can backfire. Keep in mind that it is their first real road game (Miss State doesn't count). The only defense close to ours that they have seen is A&M and A&M totally shut them down.

If we lose to this Florida team all playoff hopes and dreams are absolutely demolished. Plain and simple. We have went into this game way more undermanned and not as talented. Right now I think we are playing scared and won’t take shots deep and actually spread the defense out. You can say the run game success makes that more of an option but I think it works vice versa. Play calling seems vanilla and the little screen crap when they make big plays on defense seem to get the other team fired up. This team is fully capable and better than Arkansas and who they were last week. It sucked to lose that game and trust me Nico pissed me off looking like Milton running out of bounds but I think our receivers aren’t doing their part either. I’m not sold on Brazzell and think he is mediocre at best and would rather Matthews get a shot. Blessed to have our d line and is the best in the nation as far as depth but secondary is underwhelming. All that can change when playing at home with Volnatin at your back. Got to find out how to win on the road but if we lose this then it’s over. Can only afford to win out and split the Georgia/Alabama games. We are capable but let’s see if we can make it happen. I still believe but gotta change some things and take shots
If we beat Florida then we still don’t know about playoffs. The Alabama game is what tells it all. If we lose to Bama then playoff dream is over because we aren’t beating Georgia in Athens.

I care more about beating Florida right now than the playoffs. I feel like we cannot afford, as a program, to drop this game.

I haven't really thought that much about playoffs all season. IMO, they shouldn't be even forecasted until November.

You have teams like Ohio State and Texas who really haven't even played anyone with a pulse yet. Hard to know who is really contenders at this point.

I don't think it's a matter of playing on the road or home. It's a matter of can our offense play well against an SEC-level D-line. The last two games Lance Heard (against ARK) and Campbell have been turnstiles - can they man up and play like they should, or do we go with youth at tackle. How do we play call and scheme for an o-line that doesn't give Nico time to read the field? Do we let Nico roll out and run? UF has seen the OU and Arkie tape, they are gonna come right at the weak point of the line...how do we respond?

It takes less than 2 seconds to hit WR on the flat. Line up Miles Kitselman right next to Heard/Campbell and as soon as we hick have him roll out and pop him. I guarantee you he will get 5-8 yards and then they will start have to cover his butt and will tone down the blitz.

Any updates on any injurys for either line? It seemed to be we had a lot of guys hurt during that game! Hopefully just dinged up and all able to come back full health.

These are the type of adjustments I hope to see. We need a game plan for a weak o-line.
