This "Gimmick" Offense

I think Hooker’s best attribute was his decisiveness. He’s obviously massively skilled, but he was able to decide what to do and do it. When he got a run read, he ran. When he got a throw deep read, he threw deep. Milton processed more slowly. Nico seems not to always trust his reads (or maybe the coaches aren’t giving him as much liberty yet—I have no way of knowing). His first pick, in particular, looked like a light box run read all the way, but he threw into it. It might not have been a read play at all.

12 personnel is the old Patriots Gronk offense or the UGA 2021-22 offense: get heavy and then attack the adjustment by favoring the run if the TE draws a DB and the pass if it’s a LB.
Rabbit trail…I’m convinced that first pick was a tipped ball. Did you see the same?

More run than pass, but CJH & staff disguise well. Pardon my digress, but does anyone know about

dduncan4163? He was a regular on VN but hasn't posted in over a year. Good guy.

JMHO But here's how I would explain a "gimmicky" offense: An offense that forces you to play a defense that deploys differently than a "normal" defense would..3 DL/4 LB's with 2 cb's & 2 safeties or 4 DL/3 LB's with the same 2 cb's & 2 safeties..I guess that sounds rather simple but that's how I was taught WAAYY back in the day..TIFWIW

We aggressively run it and throw it all over the field. And we are much more physical doing it than many folks realize.

If that’s a gimmick, I’m happy we are the ones running it.
THIS! And you have to have a QB that can put zip on the ball for those long sideline passes. If not enough zip, it’s an easy pick 6 the other way. I think people call it a gimmick because the offense is frequently at the LOS from one sideline to the other that stresses a D as the safeties have to take wider splits. Of course that helps the run game. Wonder why nobody thought about calling that veteran NC State defense of 3-3-5 alignment a gimmick … that we demolished?

Every coach runs a gimmick offense. That's why they design plays to:
misdirect, hide intent, attack defenses, probe defenses for weaknesses,
and create mismatches to enhance a play's success. I do the same thing
with my wife when I want her out of the way when I'm planning a surprise
gift or event for her. She enjoys it, but calls me a sneaky bassard. So I figure coaches' offenses
are gimmicks cause they're all sneaky bassards.

I just love helping my fellow Vols fans understand things better.
VN will always be, home, sweet home, to me.

I didn’t see that, but I confess that I was looking at the numbers dropping, not the pass itself. Apparently I’m a casual nonobserver.
I watched again from different angles - it was not tipped. He lead McCoy a little too much and the NC defender was in perfect position for the errant throw.
