Fast and slow twitch are based on your muscle fibers, sure some people are born with more then others. However; you can train your body to be more explosive by doing the correct exercises, not sure why that's difficult to understand....

You can't change the % of fibers, you can train to optimize the fibers that you do have. There is a difference.

The ceiling for some is greater than for others. Trust me, I understand. Studied this for a long time.

Some people are born with an above-average ratio of fast to slow twitch fibers. This is the truth. You can train to make the most of what you have and can increase your reaction time and explosiveness by working the fast twitch muscles, but the ratio varies from person to person and you either have a high ratio or you do not. Some people are better equipped for long distance running and some for sprinting for example.

I'm not going to act like I'm a genious in muscle developement, However, I have taken some college anatomy classes to where I know at least a little about slow and fast twitch muscle fibers. Its not something that the great scientists completely understand either though because the intricate way God made the human body. However, you are born with a certain type of muscle. I hate the term fast and slow twich as used in the boards because it makes it sound like someone has (this is an example and thats it) 100 fast twich muscle fibers and 50 slow twitch in his leg. Fast and slow twitch fibers are not two different muscle types, but its all muscle fiber and some people's have a tendency to be fast twich ect. When I initially read this post by Sab, I thought he was being sarcastic about someone declaring a 2011 recruit fast/slow twitch from first evaluation. Especially being Polamalu's cousin. I don't know what he ment, thats just what I thought he ment.

Well I may be wrong, this is just the understanding I got from the classes I took. Let me clarify I'm not saying anything I said is exact truth....

Just wanted to point out to though, that I would say fast twitch would take a back seat to a player with flexible/good hips. If you want to be a top tier athlete, you have to have flexible hips. That is the only problem I see with Luc, he kinda has stiff hips.

True.

For most positions on the field at least.

Fast twitch vs. slow twitch is only one part of the equation, although it's potentially an important one....
you could also list bone structure as something you cannot change (without surgery), and hand-eye coordination is difficult to train, as well

Body composition, Muscle strength, endurance, & power, stamina, technique, and flexibility (to a certain extent) are things that can be trained and "coached" up.....

Why? Cause I know what I'm talking about. I've played college ball and worked out my whole life. I speak the truth, training to be fast twitch is all about doing explosive exercises, power cleans for instance.
See what I mean. Now look what has happened...
