Judging from the reactions of some people in the game thread and in this forum, it's almost like some of you exclusively follow the Vols and don't watch any other college football games.
Newsflash: Bad teams hang in there against better teams all the time. Every Saturday there's always 3-4 games where I'm keeping my eye on the score and it looks like a major underdog is about to pull the upset, and then it doesn't happen.
No one talks about those games afterward because it's so common. But when it happens to the Vols, it's because the entire team is terrible and the coaches suck.
The only reason USA was in this game is because Worley essentially gave them two 14-point swings. The offense was cruising in the 2nd quarter. We go up 38-7 and the game looks entirely different.
Clearly, this team has issues. But I'm also seeing a lot of progress on the field. Neal and Lane are running better than ever. The D is better, despite giving up those long drives (and USA's offense isn't terrible either). The QB situation still sucks, but hopefully we'll see a freshman soon (if they're ready).
No, we're not suddenly the worst team in the history of TN football. We're not a 3 win team. Butch isn't a worse coach than Dooley (whose team would have lost this game in the 4thQ).
We got the W. It wasn't pretty, but neither was UGA's win over UNT, or any other countless example of ranked teams barely squeaking by their cupcakes.
Time to move on to next week.
