I now understand the look on my parents faces when they saw me rocking out to AC/DC, Aerosmith, KISS, and other bands that are my generations music. Oh well it’s their generation and their music.

Edit: and the above link is absolutely freaking hilarious 😂

Hmm. Kinda weird.

You should start another thread with your other concerns.

Since you seem obsessed with it, why don't you? I'll come along later.

I don't always listen to politically charged music but when I do, I prefer RATM.

This. And only this.

Edit...no more Zack on the Mic, it's Chuck D from public enemy, supposedly with Zacks blessing. They still perform all the old RAGE songs though. Can't remember the name they go by now? Sons of Rage? Or something like that. Don't know if Tom Morello is still on lead guitar either? He was with audioslave (yay) but now that Chris Cornell is dead, I dont know what ole Tom is doing. Very talented guitar player, much like Jimi, he knows how to make many, many strange and cool sounds with a guitar. Some rage songs for instance, you would swear they had a DJ spinning and scratching records...but it's all Toms guitar. Cool dude, cool sound.

definitely woulnd't consider that political. don't even see that much that would be considered edgy or raw.

1 mention of the police, and then comparing black people to animals in pens. pretty sure thats been done before, and a lot worse. also weird that they wait until the very end to get to the "good" bits. maybe the video is what makes it a hot take idk,.

Watching them next month. Although they go by Prophets of Rage now. The band is still the same just have a different vocalist (well 2 actually). Chuck D and former lead singer of Cypress Hill. Still play lots of the old stuff. Can’t wair to see them again. Sorry for getting the thread off track. Let’s get it back where it should be.

Prophets of Rage.

RATM - Zach + Chuck D and B-Real (Cypress Hill). DJ Lord joins often. Still touring. Tom is still in the band.

I'm a big RATM and Public Enemy fan. Had free tickets to see Phrophets a year or two ago. Didn't even go...just can't get into it personally.

Having been chastened in another thread for using too many words, I'll just say that from an ethnomusicological standpoint it is well crafted, and it is very enjoyable if you know what to listen for.

The staging and dance are also very well done and meant to cause visceral reactions in the viewer.

You've noticed that 'words' on VN are an anathema. Understand that observation and my bet is that you understand the shortcomings of this  crowd as well.

Thx doc. I am with you...love their old stuff...self titled and evil empire both...can't get into the new stuff with Chuck D, just doesn't sound the same. That said, it's still better than 90% of "new" rock on the radio...there aren't any new groups that i like...and the ones who have stuck around like avenged sevenfold and 5 finger arent my tastes either...still holding my breath for the TOOL album that has been supposed to drop for 3 or 4 years now. They are my guilty pleasure music...I listen to mostly Christian music now, casting crowns being my favorite. Got to see them last year, it was cool.

I'm all jambands all the time. There's a few bands like RATM that I love, but for the most part, I don't listen to much 'rock'. Public Enemy is a left over from my old days loving rap. Tribe, De La Soul, Public Enemy, NWA...all those type rap artists still make me smile.

BTW, lots of good jamband music still being made.

I think this thread needs to be moved...
