This is how you build a culture!

You also have to acknowledge you could win without the culture change. You always have culture so the question is what is the culture. Does that culture help you win?

What you are talking about is the idea and belief that a specific culture will create sustained winning. Implementing a specific culture is one approach, not the only. I do tend to agree implementing a specific culture is a more likely way to be successful over time, even when times are hard.

Now you can debate what is a good culture. Jones, Pruitt, and Heupel have different views on this and well every coach believes in their culture. We have seen the breakdown in the Jones and Pruitt eras when the wheels fell off bus. Their cultures were either not implemented (at all or well) or their cultures were not capable of sustaining them. I would argue those cultures were not good.

Sustained winning doesn’t just come from promoting a culture. Cultures can be good or bad. Instead sustained winning comes from instilling a team culture based on a day-in, day-out proven winning prep process. Then developing and upgrading the athletes who implement that process on game day.

A culture based mainly around key players may win games in the short run but will never rise to become elite.

Nick Saban / Bama prove this approach. A winning process played out by 5-star elite athletes is virtually unbeatable. A team carried by 5-star individual athletes alone will be inconsistent and unstable over time.

We found out the hard way in ‘01 that Fulmer didn’t have a sustainable winning process instead he was a players coach who feasted on the recruits drawn in by Peyton Manning. By ‘01 the “Manning effect” on recruiting was long gone and what we had left was a veteran semi-pro NFL team that should have dominated and won it all, proving ‘98 wasn’t a fluke.

Instead Fulmer badly screwed the pooch and set us on the downward spiral we’ve been in. Until now.

White, Heup & Co have clearly righted the ship. We’ve got a LONG way to go and we’ll take our lumps this year against the big dogs but if we continue on this trajectory it’s gonna be an AWESOME ride back to the top.

Has Alabama changed their unis lately?

From a "branding" perspective, it doesn't make sense.

From a "player motivation" perspective, perhaps it does.

This is ridiculous. There was no one who saw us today and said, "I can't figure out that team in black is!" We are still very clearly Tennessee even in black uniforms. The players love it. That is literally the only thing that matters.
