I heard on 3HL yesterday that the play from practice that's on the interwebs of Pearson breaking Cam Sutton's ankles, John Brice said that CBJ said on the microphone to Sutton "That's called recruiting, son!" I thought it was worth sharing because it's hilarious!

You don't have to come until the season starts. Fans are always going to make definitive pronouncements and your mission is two fold. Figure out who has the expertise to make that determination or adjust accordingly.

Your insights usually contribute nothing to the board except negativity. I like to remain Cautiously Optimistic. Some facts are out there all ready but your ignore them for your benefit to remain negative.

Free world choose your path wisely....

Sorry that you feel it is negative to point out that proclamations (stated as facts even) that we are going to be in better shape and give better effort than all of our opponents has no factual basis and has repeated every off-season for the past several years. I call it realistic. But then, I guess reality has been pretty negative for the Vols for at least the past 6 years. Doesn't mean we get to ignore it though or attack anyone else who mentions it.

Can't change the past, you think you are the only one dealing with the 6 year fiasco, no. We all are and some us have been through several periods like this one, but we are still hanging around.

One thing I learned is that you can't be cynical about every thing posted and show your colors. We have all been disappointed in this stretch, but negativity gets old and breeds negativity.

If you chose to drive a car forward looking only into the rear view mirror then that is your choice.

"Things don't change overnight," Jones said. "We live in an instant gratification society, I understand that, but we're going to build it the right way so it's set in stone for a very, very long period of time."

Right now Jones is stating and doing the right things on his best schedule to put a competitive team on the field.

Yet, you get upset and have to put those fans in a corner for being enthusiastic about Volunteer Football or where it looks like he may have this team headed.

Who really has a problem with this, You or them. Right now it would be safe to say You simply "Don't Get It or See It"

1. There is nothing wrong with asking for evidence or some factual basis from those who make broad proclamations that our team will give more effort than any other.

2. There is nothing wrong in pointing out that the same things have been said (with similar lack of evidence) in years past and hoping that one day the posters here will learn from history instead of continually repeating it.

3. "Instant gratification" has nothing to do with being a fan of a major college football team that hasn't even managed a winning season in 4 years.

1. Nothing wrong with getting factual info or asking for it, something is wrong when a person disagrees with the info and either continues to demand more or berates another because they don't agree. Just let it go or ignore button.

2. Msg Boards bred different views and thoughts. Of course, there are different levels of experience and expertise. I really don't have problem with that and that is what you expect from any Message Board. Factual information is what it is and numbers don't lie, a person can twist any numbers to support their argument.

Board Police vs Judge. If you Fact Check half the BS in here then you will be doing it 24/7. If it is really important to do so, then do it, before you ask the next question or berate someone. I can ask opinionated or subjective questions all day long but choose not to do so. We have posters that will state things just because they love the drama and for the argument.

The question regarding effort of our players versus the effort of our opponents. You cannot prove or disprove this nor can you control or rid the board of these type observations.

Given the fact that last year 2013 spring we had 0 players that could not squat more than 600 lbs, 2014 we have 9 players that can squat 600 lbs or more.

Is that not an improvement in Strength?

The article I posted above is relative and positive, but someone will find the negative aspects of this and post it for sure.

The posts somewhere in this forum regarding a Top 5 win vs a Top 10 (South Carolina) was rear view mirror thinking. Who cares if we beat a top 10 or top 5 ranked team it was the accomplishment that matter and not about the ranking at the time.

To Counter, it was stated that we lost to a 25th rank team that finished 4-8 to validate the the opposite viewpoint. Huh? Why downplay this accomplishment of team 117 with a negative? Get the point, it is negative thinking.

My thought, Enjoy the win over Stevie regardless of their rank at the end of the season versus their ranking when the game was played. It was a milestone for this program regardless of the ranking.

In Vol Nation, you should expect positive support and Vol weighted opinions, based on what are seeing at present and based what most fans have been through the past 6 years. We all want to recover as quickly as possible so why beat each other up about it.

3. Instant gratification is at the point it will be engrained in every aspect of life. Instant gratification and Entitlement are two words I loath and when it happens then the ones that demanded it, do nothing but complain about it.

Do you want it Right Now, or Do you want it Done Right. I want the latter.

I know this will bounce off your brain like a tennis ball against a brick wall, but I don't care.

I have a question for you:

Why are you here, in the middle of off-season?

I see you on here, just about every day, spewing out the same "VN sucks, people shouldn't be optimistic. We sucked last year, we sucked the 5 years before that. Woe is us, we all suck and we always will and my edgy and virulent responses will hold you kool-aid drinking stargazers in check".

Because you're just as recycled as the "this year is going to be different" crowd.

Why don't we just discuss the latest news without your sardonic crowd and then the try-hards looking for grammatical errors in a vain (and usually juvenile) attempt to be funny.

And your BGE avatar is stupid.

That is all, mock away!

This x 50 million.... God forbid FANS get excited about the team they love, what is the world coming to?

Stating the obvious...
Because of the strong dependence on the incoming class, the EEs are going to really benefit by exposure to quick tempo during spring practices. Those joining the team later are going to have to catch up to the tempo. They'd better be mentally prepared!

This is why he made such a big deal about 15 early enrollees.

There is also nothing "Wrong" with keeping your defeatist attitude to yourself. He does not need proof to feel things are getting better, and even if he did. He certainly would not owe it to you to try and convince you of it.

Also, what has happened in the past has no bearing on what is happening now. People have been saying the world is going to end tomorrow for hundreds of years, And that fact in no way is going to keep the world from ending tomorrow if that is what God feels fit to do.

There is plenty to be excited about with the future of UT football. But the same fans that make the definitive statements like "UT will plau harder than every other team" will be the 1st ones to hit the panic button in Sept.

I'm. Always optimistic about our team. Cbj is turning us around. I don't care if it sounds a bit naive. I believe in our boys and bleed orange. Every off-season is the next start of a NC season. Ill be realistic when i have to be.

I have looked all over this site and I can't find the panic button :( wanted to hit it and see what happens...

Is this something Freak installs closer to the season? When can I expect to see it? Is there a post requirement? What color is it? How big is it? Does it make a sound? Can you state a source? I want proof this panic button exists.. you owe it to me to prove that there is such a thing as the panic button.

I hear about this panic button every year but I have never seen/heard or known of it ever actually being pushed! You would think our fans could learn from the past and understand not to push the panic button.

But who cares, its going to happen if it happens, because that is the nature of the beast on most boards. The only difference here is that posters on Vol nation would rather beat each other up about it. And do it Just to prove their point.

Second there will always be fans that do it. Panic. Name me a fan base that doesn't have fans that panic. Alabama did last year over the Auburn Return and the Nick Saban to Texas Scare. Funny thing to watch.

Third, you will never rid the board of dreamers or of fans that Panic because when you think you have there will be another group of fans that get access to the internet and this board. I would rather have the fans than a bunch of old farts talking about the old days.

Maybe we just need a PMS button instead of a Panic button.

Let the USU game be close. It's existence is made evident in threads penned at times in broken English by hammered and disappointed fans. You will know the panic button has been hit. You can't see the wind but you know it is there. The same with the VN panic button.

Of all of the things you lit into him for in the post he defended the avatar. I must give the win to Boca in the exchange.
:)

This. How every VN argument should END, with a hysterical joke that conveys a sense of humor and touché at the same time. Well done by all.

You can almost set your watch to the off-season comments/predictions on here.

Lol! It's the same with every school. Except maybe KY and Vandy. I do have to say that some Vol fans are a bit over zealous more so than other programs. That's why I like to visit. Most are pragmatic though. I think it's the younger fans who tend to over-expect. I do think you have a coach who shows potential. It takes a lot of work and some luck to win in the SEC. Saban is proof of work, Malzahn of luck. :hi:

This sums it up. This team has been a let down the past 5 years, and it's not going to rebuild itself over night. With Butch at the helm, in case you haven't noticed, people are talking about UT again. MOST PEOPLE, not all apparently, realize that we are on our way back. It's not going to be this season or next, but in the next 2-3 years with stability, we will be back. Give it time. Butch knows what he is doing!

Every year, we start out on paper, "who could beat us" as soon as the first kick off, it looks like a Chinese fire drill. Last year we seem to know what to do, just not enough good players. Every year on paper , it seems I could bet the house and not lose. Thankfully I have not had that kind of faith. I believe we can win six games and a bowl game. That to me is real. The local media can make you think we can beat anybody until the real world sets in

6-6 would be a great season. Anything more should get CBJ a raise and contract extension.
