I know some of this stuff floating around the media is just rumors and fluff - but the news of some of these rejections is really starting to sting abit. Maybe it's the way they are reported? Pearl bias in some of the reporters?

This same thing happened when we hired Dooley (thank god it turned out okay for now) but that search was just as if not more embarrassing than this is.

It irritates me that Alabama can go through a decade of garbage football and go out and hire a guy like Nick Saban, but we can't seem to find a guy for our basketball program - that yes has it's troubles right now - but is coming off an Elite 8 appearence last year and has fancy new facillities that makes most basketball programs in the SEC look like high school.

Possible sanctions don't play a part in this considering we offering (more rumors here) 8 years!

Do I just have permanent orange tinted glasses considering I am the VN Homer here - or are we really not the athletics mecca we all thought we were?

Did we waste university money on all of these renovations thinking the recruits and coaches would be banging down the door here? Is Mike Hamilton an idiot fan like me who thought the exact same thing? Maybe fancy facilities and renovations don't bring in the money and players?

I'm irritated to no end.

Calm down. Coaches "reject" jobs all the time, even when never contacted. See: Bobby Knight, Fulmer. I am sure some big names have prob declined to talk but every time we read about a coach rejecting overtures, doesn't mean he was even offered. Makes them look good and helps them get a raise

Anderson rejected Arky a week ago, now look where he is. It's all a game, see Nick Saban for example.

It's not however a game when you see from reliable posters on here that they intend to go the cheaper route with hire. I understand the OP's frustration.

When did this happen?

C'mon, we canned him like 6 days ago geez.

There' only been an opening for a wk. Just because you inquire doesn't mean TN offered. In the FB search a bunch of sports talking heads said that so and so turned them down. They said Cut turned them down when what really happened is they never offered him the job and had no intentions of so.This is according to Doug Mathews who's is one of Cut's closest friend.

A coach saying he has rejected this job and that job even if not asked is simply for a moment of spotlight. It is a bargaining chip to show he is very much desired else where and keep that thought in the back of the mind of his A.D. Smoke and mirrors...games people play.

just give it a week or so. then we'll have our squeaky clean guy who doesn't mind working for the most incompetent athletic department in the universe.

Alabama did go through this. If you will remember, Rich Rod accepted the job then flew back to WV and changed his mind. This happens everywhere. We are just paying closer attention when it comes to us.

When Lute Olsen stepped down Arizona was rejected by no less than 20 coaches, including all the ones UT is looking at. Have patience.
I don't have faith in Mike Hamilton can do the same and will grab the first person who doesn't say no.

yup ... and the bammers didn't pull in Saban until they brought in the big $$$bucks$$$ ... unless we were to do that, this will take some time, but that's ok.

I do wish the list wasn't published though, i mean, wtf???

Who says the search is going poorly. Maybe it is, but much more is going on behind the scenes than we know. Also, the tourneys are not over and there won't be a hire until then. Don't get your panties in a wad.

When someone turns down a "formal" offer, then we can dissect that when it happens. Prior to that happening, don't believe a thing you hear, because it could change in minutes.

No matter what happens with the search, I will never be more embarrassed as I was when our fanbase went mad over UT firing a compulsive liar.

Anderson never rejected Arkansas. By the terms of Anderson's contract at Mizzou, he couldn't speak to another school without Mizzou's permission. They wouldn't grant permission until he turned down their extension offer. Jimmy Sexton maneuvered it perfectly.

I'm glad UA (and the SEC) has Anderson, but I am SICK that we have to deal with Sexton again. Sexton isn't the anti-Christ, but he is related to him...
