This is starting to get a bit embarrassing

No matter what happens with the search, I will never be more embarrassed as I was when our fanbase went mad over UT firing a compulsive liar.

You use the word "compulsive" like you understand it. UT won't recover from the way it treated Bruce Pearl. Book it.

What? Are you serious? Wait, I don't wanna know. I am assuming you are kidding, it will make me sleep better. UT gave Bruce Pearl 1 mil for no reason after paying him millions the last 6 years. They gave him 1 mil after he got the program in hot water with NCAA. Go find how many programs treat coaches that bad after said coach is charged with unethical conduct. If that is treating an employee badly then I only hope to get fired with cause in the near future

And if it'll make you feel better, we can remove the "compulsive liar" phrase and replace with "admitted cheater and liar". Better? Point still stands. You may be right though, UT bball may not recover from the way Bruce Pearl treated it, I think it will though. Would be a lot easier if he didn't lead UT with likely sanctions though. Still hoping your post was sarcastic.

Just remember these words ..." I will not be the coach at Alabama!"

I in all reality don't think most top level coaches think Tenn is a great job... I do but I can't coach. It is just our reality to deal with.

I know some of this stuff floating around the media is just rumors and fluff - but the news of some of these rejections is really starting to sting abit. Maybe it's the way they are reported? Pearl bias in some of the reporters?

This same thing happened when we hired Dooley (thank god it turned out okay for now) but that search was just as if not more embarrassing than this is.

It irritates me that Alabama can go through a decade of garbage football and go out and hire a guy like Nick Saban, but we can't seem to find a guy for our basketball program - that yes has it's troubles right now - but is coming off an Elite 8 appearence last year and has fancy new facillities that makes most basketball programs in the SEC look like high school.

Possible sanctions don't play a part in this considering we offering (more rumors here) 8 years!

Do I just have permanent orange tinted glasses considering I am the VN Homer here - or are we really not the athletics mecca we all thought we were?

Did we waste university money on all of these renovations thinking the recruits and coaches would be banging down the door here? Is Mike Hamilton an idiot fan like me who thought the exact same thing? Maybe fancy facilities and renovations don't bring in the money and players?

I'm irritated to no end.

A. We have Mike Hamilton running the show, so we are not getting an A-list coach. Don't even think about it.

B. Renovations are only good to an extent. Every school in the SEC has nice facilities, anybody can hire a contractor. Even Auburn just built a new basketball gym. And you lose some of the identity when you go overboard. Neyland is no longer known as the biggest stadium in the SEC, while the stadiums that have keep there original integrity have gained in popularity.

actually i think neyland is still the largest. we played bama on that one i believe.

Alabama had more attendance than TN for the first time in the history of the SEC last season. Alabama has the largest seating capacity in the SEC(more seats). TN claims to have the largest stadium capacity(more standing room). Hammy got played so he changed the lingo to stadium capacity so he didn't have to say the changes decreased the size.

If only mike hamiliton was running the show. Pearl would still be our coach. And if hamilton was running the new hire he would spend the money to hire a top coach. Unfortunately Dipietro and Cheek are running the show.

i coulda swore we could easily get an A list coach, all they have to do is take one look at our facilities and it was a done deal. right ????

But there was a huge list of people on Volnation that all said we'd be getting a coach better than Pearl. A coach that had taken his team to the Elite 8, to back to back sweet 16's, to the number one spot, because Pearl wasn't anything special and UT basketball was already great before Pearl got here.

All those people on that list couldn't be wrong.

Could they?

nope. power in numbers my friend. Don't forget the Ernie and Bernie years. TN was a national power and our history runs deep. After KY loses tomorrow we will have Calapari eating out of our hands!!! Just watch

The fact TN was even becoming a household basketball name in America is amazing.

I know everyone wants to talk about the magical wonderful years of us not even making it into the NIT before Pearl but at some point those people have to wake up.

If we get a decent coach it will be sheer luck.

What is to be embarrassed about? It is a coaching search. They take time and a lot of false information comes out of coaching searches.

Others need to wake up to the fact that the AA was going to force ourhand either way. We part with Bruce, get a punishment, but one small and manageable. Keep him, get blistered to the point of untenable. You don't tug on Superman's cape. You can do a lot of things and live to tell, but being caught lying to the investigating team isn't on that list.
