This might be Nick Saban's LEAST talented Alabama team since 2009

He was a true freshmen last year. Players improve over time. He's improved a lot this year. And he's still very young. Turned 19 in August. He probably won't play early in his NFL career. But like Tyrod Taylor, by year 4 or 5 he'll be a capable starter.
The NFL won't be around in 4 or 5 years.... hopefully.

Dude, seriously lay off the pipe. You left off these names:
Calvin Ridley
Damien Harris
Bo Scarbrough
Najee Harris
Josh Jacobs
Rashaan Evans
Levi Wallace
Anthony Averett
Lester Cotton
Da'Shawn Hand (injured, back in couple of weeks)
Shaun Dion Hamilton
Matt Womack
Bradley Bozeman
Tua Tagovailoa

And probably 10 others on their roster who will play in the NFL. I'm no Bama fan but keep in mind they started playing their second team skill players on offense early in the third quarter Saturday. A couple of them, Jerry Juedy, for instance, aren't even on the list I just gave you. But they'll probably play in the NFL, too.

And what NFL busts are you talking about? Bama has more than 40 players in the NFL right now. You mean these guys are busts?
Julio Jones. Amari Cooper (200 yds receiving, two tds in last game), Landon Collins (best safety in NFL), Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Mark Ingram, Mark Barron, Eddie Jackson (had two pick-6s today), Don'ta Hightower, Reuben Foster, OJ Howard (100 yds & TD today), CJ Mosley, T.J. Yeldon (long TD run today), DJ Fluker, Kenyan Drake, Jonathan Allen, Derrick Henry, Kareem Jackson, Andre Smith, Reggie Ragland, Chance Warmack ... I could name more if you'd like..

All I see are busts you listed. Only Bo Scarborough has a great NFL skill set. His problem is durability. He's always injured.

And with regard to the guys already in the NFL, most have been disappointments. Only Julio Jones has become an elite player. Amari Cooper and OJ Howard just had good games this weekend. They've been terrible most of the season.

And FTR Eddie Jackson was one of two players from last years Alabama draft class I was high on. The other being Marlon Humphrey. And just as I thought Eddie Jackson is turning into a great player.

Butch is a better coach than D4H is at evaluating talent

Compared to Pre-Goodell, the quality of NFL football is now really bad because of decreasing practices and more penalties.

Yes but all leagues go through good and bad years; to say the NFL wonÂ’t be around in 5 years is ridiculous. Despite all the bellyaching about it, itÂ’s still doing better than the other 3 major leagues.

The MLB has the highest approval rating. The NFL should start worrying when the amount of people who play fantasy football goes down. The NFL will be around in 5 years, but it might be a shell of itself.

The NFL is going through a bad era right now, and depending on the CTE issue it might never get out.

This has got to be one of the dumbest threads ever started on VN, and considering the OP that's saying a ton. Alabama has an average star rating of 4.01 according to 247. They are the only team in the country that averages above 4. There are 18 5* and 52 4* players on the team. Yes they are a well coached team, no doubt about that. They are also by far the most talented team in America.

Greatest coach of all time + most talented roster = dynasty.

This thread notwithstanding, I think D4H's preseason claim that Moseley and Martin would be all-SEC corners is probably his most amazing.

I kind of like his Martin has first round NFL talent stuff the best. I mean he thinks one of the worst DBs in the SEC has first round talent. LOL.

Go and look up the star ratings of the players named to the NFL All-Pro team. You'll see more 2 stars than 5 stars there.

High school star ratings are highly fallible. I trust my eyes over what the recruiting sites say and Alabama is not very talented this year when it comes to high level NFL players.

Who ever said that high school star ratings were good indications for what NFL players these guys would be? They are supposed to be indicators of what college players they will be. The NFL career of a player should be judged against how highly they were drafted, not how highly rated they were coming out of high school.

You do realize that the Bama players you are discussing are currently playing college football, right? Given the recruiting rankings, and given Alabama's performance so far, I would think the star ratings (which are meant to judge a prospect COLLEGE potential) are pretty much spot on.

No. Bama's greatness is because Nick Saban is a great coach. There are other teams with lots of highly rated recruits like Alabama that are struggling this year. See Florida State, LSU, Tennessee, etc.

For every Alabama that is living up to their recruiting rank, there is a LSU or Florida State or Tennessee that is not. And the biggest difference is the COACHING.

Matt Ryan = 3 star
Tom Brady = didn't see a ranking

Ezekiel Elliot = 4 star
David Johnson = 2 star
Le'Von Bell = 3 star

Travis Kelce = 2 star
Greg Olsen = 5 star

Antonio Brown = 2 star
Julio Jones = 5 star
Odell Beckham Jr = 4 star
Mike Evans = 3 star

Tyron Smith = 5
Joe Thomas = 4
Trent Williams = 3
David Bakhtiari = 2

Kelechi Osemele = 3
Marshall Yanda = 3

Travis Frederick = 3
Alex Mack = 2

Zach Martin = 4
David DeCastro =3

Jake Conklin = N/A
Mitchell Schwartz = 3
Marcus Cannon = 3

Khalil Mack = 2
Vic Beasely = 4
Jadeveon Clowney = 5
Cameron Wake = 4
Olivier Vernon = 4
Brandon Graham = 5

Aaron Donald =3
Damon Harrison =N/A
Geno Atkins=3
Ndamukong Suh = 4
Calais Campbell =4
Gerald McCoy = 5

Von Miller = 4
Bobby Wagner = 2
Sean Lee = 3
Luke Kuechly= 3
Lorenzo Alexander = 5
Lavonte David =2
CJ Mosley = 4
Zach Brown = 4
Zach Orr = 2
Alec Ogletree = 4
Dont'a Hightower = 4
Whitney Mercilus = 3
Benadrick McKinney = 3

Aqib Talib = 2
Marcus Peters = 3
Janoris Jenkins =4
Malcolm Butler = N/A
Casey Hayward = 3

Landon Collins = 5
Eric Berry = 5
HaHa Clinton Dix = 5
Devin McCourty = 2

Chris Harris Jr = 3
Dominique Rodgers Cromartie = N/a

by my count

11 2 stars, 10 5 stars. so yes technically you are correct, but that is a fine of enough difference to not matter. I didn't count specialists because they aren't rated on the same scale (no 5 star ((out of HS)) so hard to count their 2 stars)

but if you take it to the next step there are

25 5 or 4 stars
18 3 stars
16 2 or N/A stars

considering the vast number of 3, 2 or N/A players compared to the number of 4 & 5 stars it seems like a better bet to be a 4+ than not.

Cough.

ITS ALABAMA AND THEN EVERYONE ELSE. Honestly, I was shocked by how much more talented Alabama's roster is than everybody else. As you can see, nobody else even breaks into the 70s in terms of their final score. But there is Alabama by themselves in the 80s over 15 points clear of everyone else. To put it in perspective, at least according to my rankings, there is a bigger gap in talent between Alabama and Ohio State who rank #1 and #2 than there is between #2 Ohio State and #10 Texas. THAT'S CRAZY. No wonder Nick Saban and Alabama are always in the national title game.

Bill Gates made a C one quarter in 1st grade math. He wasn't a top prospect at that point, but somehow made something of himself once he went pro.
