In the last 8 quarters, Tennessee has scored 17 points, given up 74 points against the two best teams in the East Division this year, looking at a best case scenario of 4-4 in the conference this year, we should win all of our buy games, so 8-4 is our best this year after getting embarrassed in Gainesville and Tuscaloosa, no indication it will be any better next year absent some wholesale changes to bring this program into the competitive framework necessary to be a top tier team (not the best) in the SEC,
Heupel has a tremendous amount of upside with talented and competent coordinators capable of being competitive in the SEC, but he has to have a defense and the offense has to have a top tier quarterback to make it all work in a hurry up, spread the field framework, Bob Stoops was not impressed with his ability as an offensive coordinator at Oklahoma and terminated his tenure there, when White Danny put the call into Heupel at Central Florida, Power 5 conferences were not beating down the door to lure him away from Orlando, particularly after sliding from the Scott Frost foundation he inherited, I think Heupel has to look beyond the $9 million a year to see what he really wants to do going forward, the problems with the 2023 team are obvious, but I'm not sure Heupel gives two hoots about results with a 55 yard field goal try tonite, down 3 touchdowns in the second half, when most Tennessee fans do want to see the team be competitive,
We've seen champions of life, need championships that are evidenced by trophies not feelings
