this team is just hard

I still have Elston Turner and and Marshall Henderson nightmares. One of Mears’s huge misses was not getting Elston in orange (class of 1977). Perhaps it was too soon after the A-E riot in Stokely and Woodruff wouldn’t allow it. That recruiting window would have also overlapped with CRM’s deteriorating health.

I think Turner wanted to play at UT and if CRM had not had health issues, he would have gotten UT into a Final Four and perhaps Aberdeen would have succeeded Mears and Wettig would have not been the interim coach.

BTO...I always believe the term "layup" is a term meaning uncontested as in warn up layup line. In that context...none of our missed "layups" were uncontested. Sometimes in a very physical game where referees have made it clear no-blood-no-foul and you miss what everyone thinks you should have made...tip your hat to Mississippi's defense and move on.
The two layups at the beginning of the 2nd half were essentially uncontested. You might go back to the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half for proof. Otherwise, the hope is to be able to finish strong and somehow, someway get some points in the situation. Drawing a foul would be nice, too. I agree that most of those attempts were highly contested and not easy, but the two breakaways where we got no points were tough to take. Contested, yes, but put the hammer down and finish.

Absolutely not. Then we would be getting our money’s worth. Would you have a problem driving a Nissan Altima if you paid the same price as a Maserati cost? Value does matter….
Guess if I didn’t pay a penny for either it wouldn’t really matter. Remind us of how much of CRB’s salary you pay?

Just call it Barnes ball. We've been watching this rerun for several years now. Good defense and WTF offense. It is what it is at this point.

If there's a team that misses more shots at the rim than Tennessee in major college basketball, I'd hate to see it.

Nkamhoua drives me nuts in this regard. He has so many “almost” plays. He drops a pass where he’s wide open. He misses close in shots that he should make. He seems like he should be really good, but is missing something. Focus, maybe.

There are no offensive sets .. everythign is setup off PG dribble penetration and lobs or kickouts ... or passing around .. and jacking up 3's .. we have already witnessed what happens when those shots arent falling .. we dont have enough good shooters to rely on that .. pound it inside .. run sets to get mid range shots ... we shoot less 12 ft shots then anyone

to watch. Have been all year. I will pick it up in the second half. With all of the talent that the team has you would think they could blow Ole Miss away.

And you base this on what?? To me they have shown to have average talent at best. Teachable yes (as shown by the defensive ability) but shoot at best average and have trouble one on one, which leads me to even further to consider them average. We are just fortunate to have a really good staff.

I didn't want to mention it last night because the Nkamhoua lovers will point to his 13 points on 5-7 shooting as if it absolves all of his other shortcomings, but since you broke the ice...

1.) He has terrible hands and next to no feel for his teammates intentions. It's as if almost every pass that isn't a direct, traditional post feed from outside the 3-point circle catches him completely unaware. Four times in last night's game he just botched a crafty pass. The opening possession he rolled off a pick and the pass went right thru his hands and out of bounds. In the 2nd half, he fumbled a lob pass at the basket, and then twice under three minutes to play, he botched two nifty feeds from Ziegler. The fact ON was able to handle the between the legs pass from Ziegler to ice the game was equal parts astonishing and amazing. The fact that he finished the play, afterwards, was even more so.

2.) His rebounding still leaves a lot to be desired. Last night, Tennessee and Ole Miss combined to miss 67 shots from the field, and he had 2 rebounds in 30 minutes.
•Mashack had 3 in 6 minutes.
•Ziegler, at 5-9, had 5 in 28 minutes.
•Vescovi had 6 in 42 minutes.
•Chandler had 2 in 28 minutes.
•Powell has 2 in 22 minutes.
Nkamhoua was matched, or outrebounded by every guard who played except V. Bailey, who played 2 minutes. That cant happen for a team that misses as many ahots as we do, and doesnt rebound well to begin with. He has to eat up rebounds.

The guy has some potential. He's shown flashes of it. He just doesn't seem to have a great basketball IQ or propensity for going the extra mile in the hustle department. We need him at his best to be our best as a team.

Folks, I love Tennessee. All sports. I bleed orange. Been through the ups and downs. I believe we are only shooting ourselves in the foot when we beat up and on the coaches and players. I have done that and apologize profusely. In the heat of battle, I say things that are not helpful. Having said that, I hope Coach Barnes turns this around. He is a good coach and his credentials are solid. We are a lot better now than before. We have a real mix of talent, young, old, five star and not so five star, maybe chemistry is off or timing, COVID is a pain, injuries, and SEC is a tough road to hoe. I am thankful for Tennessee and hope things get turned around. We have a lot of time to figure it out before tourney time. Last night was crazy. Just glad we pulled it out.

Cuonzo Martin’s salary when he was at UT was 10th in the SEC. I’m sure if I dig up your old posts, I’ll find zero complaints from you about him.

CLEARLY...the 24 hour ban from posting should have been in place after this game. People say things that make zero sense but (I guess) make them feel a little better at the time. BTW...it's going to be like this probably for ever SEC game we play this year...so get all your points together now because this will be a banner year for posting!

Whatdya mean “OUR money’s worth”?? If Barnes was paid $500K/yr, you would b!tch about UT going bargain bin on Barnes.

Meanwhile we get it. It’s always Barnes’ fault when we don’t shoot > 70% and win pretty. He either called the wrong plays, had the wrong personnel in, or didn’t recruit or develop enough shooters. Players just do as coached. No human error element in shooting the rock. It’s just that simple!
