How does it compare? Was yesterday even close? I know Wilhoit's kick was much longer, but how did the reaction compare?

I really think the win over Florida was much bigger, but I didn't get to experience that, and I'm trying to get some perspective.

I'm the exact opposite. I attended the 2004 UT/UF game, but did not attend yesterday's game.

When Wilhoit made that 50 yarder, it was the loudest I have ever heard Neyland Stadium. I've been to some exciting, loud games before, too (2006 Cal, 2006 UF).

I would imagine the ultimate Neyland experience would've been 1998 Florida, though. I wish I attended that game. It was magical.

I was in the student section in that game, and we were far enough away that it was difficult to see if Wilhoit's kick was good or not. And then this wave of noise came rumbling our direction. It was incredible. Probably the coolest sports-related experience for me. Ever.

Yesterday didn't seem that loud to me, but very exciting. This could be because I was in AA, when I have always sat in Z11 or the student section. Like I said. I'm just curious how it compared.

Was in the student section in 2004. Loudest I have ever heard Neyland. Best moment I've ever seen in any stadium anywhere

The stadium was full for the Florida game, but the celebration after this game was something I've never seen. I've never seen our players circle the whole circumference of the wall , giving fans high fives. As far as loudness, this was a 7 (on a scale to 10). The Florida 2004 and 1998 were about 15 (on a scale to 10)

Went to both, and FLA was way bigger, intense, heart stopping, etc., but yesterday will still hold a special place in Vol history. I loved them both!

Was not there yesterday but 2004 UF game was incredible. One of the best memories of my life.

I was at both games. The 04 game was more intense because of the circumstances as to what led up to the field goal. Plus it was a 50 yarder, not a chip shot. Plus UF is a bigger rival than SC.

The SC game was intense for it's own reasons. I'm just glad I got to see both live.

We were at the 2004 game but the reaction to Palardy's field goal yesterday was a whole lot more electrifying than 2004... you could actually feel the noise, unity and everything yesterday.. I mean it ran through all of our bodies!! That was a long, long overdue experience for Neyland Stadium!!

GO VOLS..
GO BIG ORANGE ...

I agree with this completely

Agree. I was blessed to be at all 3 -- Florida '98 and '04 and yesterday. Just sheer numbers would help understand the sound. The '04 game attendance was 109,061 which is the all time record. For '98 is was 107,653. Since we've downsized the stadium a bit, we can't get back to those higher numbers. Somebody probably knows the ultimate upset today which might more than the current 102,455 capacity - that '04 Florida game was about 5,000 more than the official capacity at the time. So yesterday's crowd of about 95,000 was not quite up to those other games' sound level. Nevertheless, it was spectacular, very satisfying, and awesome. At lot of the sound was pure jubilation of winning a big game again. I was just happy for the team and especially for all those players who stuck around and got to experience the exhilaration of a big time college football victory at home at least one time. I am looking forward to a time in the not too distant future where the stadium will be packed to the gills again to watch a top five or greater crowd be even more explosive than yesterday. And it was very cool to Butch Jones leading the band. It's great to be a Tennessee Vol!!

I remember when beating South Carolina was a given, as was Florida, Vanderbilt, the Mississippi's and LSU. They were all perennial crap teams. We had to worry about Ga., Alabama and Auburn.

This year we have to worry about them plus a few.

Florida game much louder. But I will say after we jumped on Cal in 06 was loudest imo. After that 05 debacle and such huge underdogs to thump those guys.

Agreed; I was there for FL in '04, there yesterday, and there for Cal in '06 - when we went up on Cal 21-0, it was the loudest I've ever heard anywhere. FL '04 comes second, but that doesn't deminish yesterday - it was different; for me it was more raw emotion than the other two games. We expected to beat that #7 Cal team that ran their mouth before the game. We felt Florida was our hated rival and we were due. The SC game felt like it had been so long since we won over a ranked team (note: it had been long) we secretly felt like something bad would happen at the end and snatch it away - but it didn't. it was the sound of getting that monkey off, which maybe wasn't as loud, but more felt. :twocents:

and I have never seen the players celebrate with the fans like that. It was awesome.

2004 was in "another league" of loud compared to yesterday. Keep in mind there was 14000 more people at the Florida game and it was at night and … it was Florida

The 1998 UF game was the loudest from start to finish i have attended. The defense kept answering and the crowd kept getting louder. The excitement of the 50 yard kick was amazing. I wish I could have made it yesterday to compare. Great win and just relieved to get rid of that ranked team albatross.
