it's becoming readily apparent why Pearl appears to have the halfcourt offense essentially eating 15-20 seconds of the shot clock before attacking the basket. He's trying to shorten the game. Halfcourt defense and offensive rebounding, the two strengths of this team, are magnified in low possession contests.

Agree to an extent. However I think Bert nailed it on why mcbee instead of golden and that's because golden just dribbles while mcbee sets offense up and usually makes good first pass to exploit zone Ala the first half when he came in threw a quick pass to Brian to break down zone and Scotty was wide open and drained it. At one point in second half they switched from zone to man to man with skylark in game which means Scotty is one on one against a guy he could take blindfolded.

When it became very apparent they were doing that tonight I thought it was more a function of sitting on our lead.

I am trying to figure out why he would want to shorten the game with a South Carolina team that is absolutely pathetic.

Their offense is no more pathetic than Tennessee's. UT's advantages were in the halfcourt defensively and on the offensive glass. Play a looser game against them and you risk having the same thing happen to you that happened to Florida.

Makes sense, I guess. Mask your weaknesses, accentuate your strengths.

If he needs to run a low percentage offense to do it, so be it.

but for the most part... we've doing this 15-20 seconds of crap for 5 years now. no one cared while Lofton was draining insane 3's to bail us out.

so pearl either thinks these guys can't learn to play solid halfcourt offense... or he doesn't teach them cuz he doesn't know anything but the high school flex... modified to kill even more momentum and eliminate options.

i'm sure all that sounds retardly whiney... but i just don't understand how he can stand to watch such a lack of sound, offensive bball.

Maybe his heart can't take it anymore. He may be killing time till he's thrown under the bus.

Lofton didn't bail us out with 3's last year to get to the Elite 8. He must have been teaching them something.

Hadn't thought about it, but that makes a whole lot of sense.

might be the case, but that's been his halfcourt offensive philosophy for his entire career. Has the fringe benefit of shortening games now, but we've been doing it since he arrived. I don't understand how it's better than setting some screens and moving the ball. It can't be a bad thing to score early in the clock if a screen is actually set and used appropriately.

It just looks like they are draining the clock intentionally. Fact is, they have no clue what they are doing.

I think the whole "score early or score late" philosophy is kind of universal in basketball. You either want to get something easy in transition, or you want to make a team guard you long enough that they make a mistake. It's not unique to Pearl, and it's not unique to the flex.

The problem with the flex is we're not giving the other team enough opportunities to make a mistake. JMO.

when we win it looks like strategy, when we lose it looks like the team doesn't know what offense to run.

I think more creativity on offense would benefit this team but we are so limited by the point guard play there really isn't much that can be done.

That literally made me want to vomit listening to him continuously say that.

The close up of "the nail" was a nice touch.

I think it was Dykes that was spouting "the nail" and "score early, score late" crap, iirc.

Agreed....I am constantly amazed at the real lack of understanding some have....CBP is only with his team LIKE EVERYDAY WORKING ON OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE SETS...I think he knows what gives us the best chance of winning...I just sometimes laugh too myself and sometimes I reply...but I'm still AMAZED....High School Flex????
