If you cant shoot it doesnt matter how open you are. If fact I often shot better with a hand in my face.

If it doesn't make a difference, why defend opposing guards at all? Just run a 0-5 zone and have everyone crowd the lane.

The team that has wide open shots will shoot a higher percentage 90% of the time versus a team that has a hand in their face. You preferred a hand in your face because you thought about being wide open when you were, rather than launching. Better shooters don't have a problem with that.
