Years past Cal has always had a few upperclassmen who were big contributors...not this year and you're seeing the effects.
Not necessarily. Who were the "few upperclassmen" that UK had last year? Miller was the only one, and he came off the bench. UK got the top class this season, but these freshmen arent as good as the class UK has had in previous years. The Cats just dont have a scoring machine like they've had, or a good shut down defensive guy.
Too much blame is being put on lack of upperclassmen. Thats ridiculous.
Don't forget Lamb.Terrence jones was a returning Starter who averaged 32 minutes 16pts and 9rbd...in Cals system that's an upperclassmen, who on this years team can you say that about? And as you said they also had miller, so you had 2 guys who've been starters and major contributors on a NCAA tourney team, once again who can you say that about on this UK team.
Lamb and Jones were sophs. You said upperclassmen. I dont care what they averaged, sophs are not upperclassmen.
Older more experienced players dont win titles, talent wins over everything. And UK doesnt have it this year like years previous.
1. They're not terrible.
2. They're freshmen, we can't expect a lot from them, they have no leadership.
3. They aren't being pushed out by Cal. It's just we happen to have some of the best players in the nation for the last 4 years (Wall, cousins, Knight, AD, Noel, etc.)
But yes, next year I wouldnt be surprised to see them all go considering we already have the number 1 class with a chance to get more top ten talent.
Returning players dont win, talent does. Miller was last years senior, Harrellson the year before. If you took those 2 and put them on this years team...UK would still be awful. Put Anthony Davis and Gilchrist on this years team and they'd be undefeated. Doesnt matter what year they are, when you're talking Anthony Davis or John Wall type talent it triumphs everything. This year they just dont have that type of talent.

Ahhh Hardwood, I was really hoping we could be internet friends. Someone with your intellect is always great to have as a friend. That beer quote is just genius. I laugh hysterically when I read it.ost-4-1090547912:
Having the #1 class one year can be completely different from the next. This year is a perfect example. Davis, Gilchrist and Teague were light years ahead of Goodwin, Poythress and Noel. John Wall's class was a great one, too. Him, Cousins, Bledsoe...that was talent.
This year, UK has Noel, and thats it. The others are major disappointments. Its a crap shoot, so far its worked out well. Really well if you look at the last few years and how good they'll be again next year. One bad year and everyone turns into a genius at figuring out the problems. One definitely thing its not is senior leadership.....its talent.
Yea clearly UK has no talent, that's why Noel is the only player projected to go in the first round lol.
