I think a lot of the guys would benefit from playing with a chip on their shoulder like Lamonte. I loved seeing his fire and fearless attitude on the court and you can tell the other guys looked up to him as the leader. Unfortunately, we don't have anyone like that to replace him this year.
He showed promise at the beginning of the season, but seems to have slightly regressed. Maybe it's conditioning related, but I thought he seemed to be in much better shape to start than Admiral or Grant were.
I still see a lot of potential for him, just seems to make a lot of "freshman mistakes".
Tell me how your attitude and opinions are going to get our programs to greatness.
Did you call out Cal when Noel got injured and they missed the NCAA? How about Saban when Alabama lost Tua (for his coaching post injury)? Colts without Luck? The equivalent happened to us with Turner’s shoulder injury. You can’t ignore injuries when evaluating performances. So I'm the only one on here calling out coaches when we lose to Ga State? When we get torched by Wisconsin? When we lose a home game to a very average LSU team? I don't think so... I just call it as it is. JP did great turning the season around but when I was bashing him we were not sure we'd win 1 game all year. The current basketball recruits are not up to par to keep up with the upper tier of the SEC. Period.
First off, yes, I had to copy and paste his name.
We talk a lot about Bowden, James and recently Vescovi, but what about this guy? Barnes repeatedly mentions him in his postgame press conferences as a guy that we really need to step up.
Can he be a guy that gives us more this year?

If you think my comparisons are unreasonable, you just compared Georgia State to LSU, so...
So you don’t care about random talent loss, got it. Guess it was bad coaching when Alabama lost that 3 on 5 game.I sure the hell did. I'm not a KY fan I can promise that. I'm probably one the the largest UT donors on this forum. I just call it as I see it. Sorry if that hurts your feelings Frances.
Please tell me what he or Pember, or Gaines have brought to this team? Face the facts, this team is horrible and there is no excuse for falling this far after the year we had last year. Barnes put all his time into Blackshear and it backfired. Call me what you like but this team is really, really bad. #staywoke
He doesn’t handle the ball like he was a guard. He was a guard most of his career and I think he is really struggling with the adjustment to playing in the paint, against SEC defenders. The physicality. The athleticism. And I think that has eroded his confidence. I see some of the appeal about his potential but, just my opinion, I think it might be a little inflated. Not every player that had solid skill as a guard and then shoots up 4-5 inches will instantly become a stud post player.
He's as pitiful as the rest of the new class. Don't know why Barnes even recruited these guys. They wouldn't see playing time in the the MAC.
And getting benched entire 2nd halves. I think Barnes is doing this kid a disservice. Bowden can go through the worst shooting slump of his career and nothing, but ON makes a mistake and it’s instant bench. Be consistent.Lol yet they receive playing time in the SEC.
Gaines and Pember were thought to be “projects” or at least two who could benefit with a red shirt.....but because of transfers, player losses, and injury they just couldn’t.
James is a solid starter and good player.....freshman
Vescovi is turning out to be a good scorer and a valuable addition.......freshman
Gaines, hasn’t given a ton of offense, he certainly has given valuable minutes and does not hurt the team.......freshman
Olivier has certainly added “some” much needed depth to the front court. He is 4th on the team in rebounds, and is shooting over 50%......freshman
Every time ON enters the game someone is wide open under the basket. You can't have that. Barnes is giving him chances but he has to play defense and rebound to be out there. And getting benched entire 2nd halves. I think Barnes is doing this kid a disservice. Bowden can go through the worst shooting slump of his career and nothing, but ON makes a mistake and it’s instant bench. Be consistent.

He is long enough and athletic enough to be a college center but obviously needs to build his body. Just doesn't seem athletic enough for any other position but some of that might just be him being timid. His basketball IQ is clearly holding him back significantly. For instance, against Missouri they doubled whoever had the ball and then kicked it back to him so he was wide open at the top of the key. He passed on shooting an open jumper, which is fine, and opted to drive the ball instead. The problem is the defense had already rotated over to the paint (and had been there for several seconds). This means he either drives and does a floater or drives, has the defense close out and kick to the cutter coming from the corner. Instead he just plows into the defender for the easiest charge call of all time.
He's also a tweener. Doesn't look athletic enough to play the 4 full time, and certainly isn't strong enough to guard 5s yet. He doesn't have a great post game yet, his jumper needs work. I have seen times when he's had to cover guards on a switch on the perimeter and done a pretty good job. He needs to do a better job rebounding, but he also lacks the size and length to be a great rebounder from the 5 position.
He's still a freshman playing against significantly better talent than he's ever seen. He should get stronger and smarter the longer he stays. Ideally Uros would've played this year and his role would've been a lot less or he would have been redshirted. That isn't the case though.
