1. Maze seems to be a different player lately. Playing the 2 some appears to have given him more confidence in his three point shot and he has figured out that it is very difficult to defend a strong, quick PG that drives tot he bucket. Led the team in scoring and assists (though only 3 and 3 turnovers), but his aggressiveness was huge today.

2. It makes me tired just looking at Chism. He has put so much sweat into a UT uniform, I almost ache when I seem him banging around. Will go down as one of my all-time favorite Vols. And he has had to do it all on his own -- unlike Patterson at KY, Chism doesn't get his hand held by the refs in every game; in fact, they are constantly allowing him to get pounded and they call an enormous number of BS calls on him.

3. JP Prince actually played intelligently today and was key with his rebounding and play-making for others. But most importantly, his aggressiveness led to fouls and he shot 80% from the FT line. It wouldn't be exageratting to say that his FT shooting was THE difference in the game. He creates enough charges on his own without incompetent SEC refs giving him BS charges, which happened with his 3rd foul today. Having a 6'7 guy who can handle the ball like a PG and has the wingspan of a 6'11 guy can be an amazing weapon when his game above the shoulders matches his game below the shoulders.

4. Brian Williams is a very good passer for his size, but he lacks an aggressive streak -- in the great tradition of wimpy UT big men, he would pump fake a 5'11 guy. And he can't shoot FTs. Thus, the only time he should touch the ball is when he is going to pass it or after a rebound. Otherwise, it's almost a turnover.

5. Kenny Hall is going to be really, really good. Kid has all the tools and will get stronger and more experienced as a ball handler. I can't wait to watch him develop.

6. This team would be so much better if we had a reliable three point shooter. Hopson continues to drive his percentage into the ground. McBee hit one, but only took one and he doesn't have the athleticism to create a three point shot. He has to be open. Maze did well today. Goins is a "Nooooo" three point shooter. Chism may be the most reliable, but our wing players too infrequently look for him trailing.

7. I still view Stephen Pearl as a neutral body -- he giveth some on offense and taketh away at least as much on defense and on the glass. Two aggressive plays on offense for layups, but unable to box out a larger player on a FT. And 2 rebounds in 15 minutes. Same number as McBee.

8. Devon Downey is sick. How good would this team be if he had picked UT instead of USC when he was transferring from Cinncy? If not for the SEC's love and bias toward KY, Downey would be easily SEC POY.

9. Hopson has a lot of growing to do. He played more minutes than anyone and besides grabbing 6 rebounds, had a fairly poor overall game. I hope that Tatum's return and taking some of Hopson's minutes will improve our outside shooting and help take some pressure off of Hopson.

10. There are only two ways to avoid the SEC's favorite lover (KY) in the tournament. Either win out and hope Vandy loses to KY, FL, and Arkansas, or lose at FL and otherwise win and hope the Gators win out. I actually wouldn't mind beating KY, Arkansas and MSU but losing at FL and finishing 4th in the SEC East. That would put us playing Alabama, Auburn, or Ole Miss in the first round of the tourney and then playing Arkansas or MSU in the quarters and probably Vandy, Ole Miss or Bama in the semis before facing the Conference --er, I mean, KY -- in the Championship game. The only hope of winning the SEC tourney for any team other than KY this year is that the SEC is embarassed to play 8 on 5 on National TV in the Championship Game.

11. A word on the refs. For the most part, they did okay, but it only takes one and the one imbecile called a block a charge on JP, called goal tending on JP when he didn't come close to touching the ball, and gave USC the ball when Wayne Chism knocked it out of bounds onto Downey, who was laying out of bounds. It is extremely frustrating to have either corrupt refs who want to make sure KY or Vandy win or incompetent buffoons who don't have the wherewithal to distinguish between a goal tend and a missed FG.

SOMEONE NEEDS TO EXPLAIN TO A MODERATOR THAT SOUTH CAROLINA IS KNOWN AS "THE COCKS" -- KINDA LIKE UT IS KNOWN AS "THE VOLS"

You view Pearl wrong. He played excellent defense while he was in, and that's all we need him to do. The ball came off long on the free throw and he knocked the ball out of bounds. I thought he gave us excellent minutes and is doing what he's supposed to do.

Pearl had a great game.

I think we disagree on the definition of "excellent defense".

But, consider that USC started a 6'5 freshman at PF. And Pearl's turnover on that FT rebound was because he couldn't box out a 6'7 SF. USC is one of the weakest low post teams in the SEC.

Florida will play 6'8 Alex Tyus and 6'8 Dan Werner at PF. MSU will play 6'8 Osby and 6'8 Augustus. Kentucky plays Patterson and Orton. It could get ugly. Remember Woolridge got a lot of those minutes against FL and KY the first time around.

Wrong. It was because of a long rebound, and it could have happened to anyone.

Actually, UK plays a guy named Cousins slightly more than Orton. Pearl guarded him multiple times in the UK game and was able to keep pushed out away from the block. And, if you honestly think that Woolridge plays significantly better post defense than Pearl, then I wonder why his ass has been glued to the bench the last two games.

If that is true, a lot of people owe Woolridge some apologies. Playing the #2 team in the nation on the road against the Rupperees and 2 future top 15 NBA draft picks, he scored 2 points and grabbed 3 rebounds, committed 1 turnover and fouled 1 time.

Playing against one of the 4 worst teams in the SEC with the weakest low post in the conference, Pearl scored 4 points and got 2 rebounds, fouled 3 times, and committed 1 turnover.

Makes one wonder why Woolridge got benched for having a "great game" against Kentucky.

Sorry, but it wasn't a long rebound.

Cousins plays Center, not PF. But, if you are going to argue with me, you might want to disagree with me -- Woolridge played 24 minutes in the KY game. He was guarding Cousins a lot more than Pearl was if Cousins was playing PF. But, to be fair, he wasn't because (as I noted above) Cousins plays Center for KY, not PF. Chism was guarding Cousins most of the time. Patterson, on the other hand, who was being mostly guarded by Woolridge, had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

He got benched because he can't guard a fence post, and he sucks offensively. Pearl plays because he is pretty tough defensively and makes hustle plays. Not that difficult to understand.

Again, instead of offering up more garbage, why do you think Woolridge has played exactly 0 minutes the last two games, one of which was against the 2nd best frontline in the conference, if he is basically a reincarnation of Dikembe Mutombo on the block defensively?

You obviously have no clue.

I don't blame you for resorting to "you have no clue" when the facts are so damaging to your cause.

Let's see what kind of defense Pearl plays on Patterson in a week.

If Woolridge "sucks offensively", then Pearl "sucks offensively". Let's be consistent Momma Pearl. Quick, which one averages 4 points a game and which one averages 1.5 ppg? No peaking.....

Yea, you're right. The facts are against me. Quick, which one is playing and which one's ass is on the bench?

There is probably no one on this board that cringes more than me when Stevie gets on the floor.

With that said, he played as well as he can ever play today, and did a pretty damn decent job.

And the only apology that is owed to Renaldo is by the people who told him he could play at a BCS level school.

Sorry, but it was. When the ball bounces off the rim well past the block on the free throw, unless Pearl boxes the guy out pass the three point line, the guy will have a shot at touching the ball.

And to the long paragraph of crap. I know this is probably very difficult for you to understand, but we played what us basketball gurus like to call a 3-2 zone the entire game against UK, so it really doesn't matter who was playing the 4 or 5. When they were able to get ball to the block to Cousins, Pearl guarded him more than Woolridge.

And I'm not pretending that Pearl is Michael Jordan; I'm just saying I would much rather have him on the floor than Swipersuck.

When it comes down to who plays between Suck and Suck, go with the one who has sucked the least. Plus at least Stevie puts some effort on defense. He also doesn't attempt to shoot that often, which by default means he should play over Swipe.

Wise's first name is Orlando. Only reason one would think that Woolridge is worth a crap. Yes he is 6-8. Yes he is athletic. Yes he has had some good games in his career to boost his overrated stats. But when it comes down to it, Woolridge will never realize his potential. Pearl is not athletic, but he has enough guts and determination to play solid defense and scrap for some loose balls. Pearl doesn't take awful shots with 28 seconds left on the shot clock either. Pearl > Woolridge.

woolridge has been glued to bench and pearl playing simly cause of the coach is a father of little steven,if woolridge hang aroud at ut and hits the weights he will be a key back up at every position besides guard,if he could just quit trying to be a tree point shooter.maby his dad or someone close to the family will work with him and show him what he needs to get better at and make him a more complete and all together better player.because woolridge has the potentail to get alot better.where as pearls only possible future in basketball is to become an assistant coach with his dad or in high school

One thing is certain -- a sophomore will not realize any potential sitting on the bench. Next season Pearl and Woolridge will still be roughly equivalent because Pearl isn't ever going to get better and Woolridge isn't going to be allowed to get better. But at least Stephen's coaching resume is getting a boost.

No, wait. Woolridge and Pearl won't be roughly equivalent next season, because Woolridge will likely transfer after this season and I don't blame him. There are a lot of Sophomores in the SEC who have struggles and who get better, but not when a mid-major player is on the team and his Dad let's him have that sophomore's minutes.

Woolridge got benched after "poor play" on the road at Vandy and at Kentucky, the two best teams in the SEC. Stephen is crowned a "champion" after equally mediocre play at home against UGA and on the road at USC, two of the SEC's worst teams (perhaps the two worst).

The only thing this discussion proves is that there are too many fans that think with their emotions instead of their minds. Tanner Wild use to hit three pointers when he got in the game at the end and it made every feel all fuzzy inside as well.

One scenario I didn't think of because I admittedly don't have a lot of respect for Vanderbilt, is that they might win the SEC and put us (if we finish 3rd) in their bracket.

If Vandy beats UK tonight and we beat UK, Vandy will get the #1 seed from the East by winning 3 of their final 4 games if UK wins every other game except the one in Knoxville or 2-2 if KY loses to UT and to another team (less likely).

It is interesting to see the refs' heads spinning in Nashville tonight, unsure of who to call the game for -- although it appears that the "always call the game for KY" rule is slightly trumping the "always call the game for Vandy at home" rule.

This is simple, they both suck and both always will, but right now, Pearl is sucking a lot less than Woolridge.

Right. By thinking a guy who shoots about 10% from the field yet continues to jack up horrible shots should be benched over a guy who plays significantly better defense and recognizes his limitations offensively, people have clearly let their emotions get the best of them. I'm really shocked we've been able to win the last two games without Swipersuck.
