First of all, let me get this out of the way. Here is what I THINK is going to be the outcome of the game.

Tennessee 24, Oregon 52

Oregon will score 42 of its points in the first half. Tennessee will score 10 of its points in the 4th quarter when Oregon is playing its 2nd team and the game is already out of reach. Oregon will rush for 300+ yards and will control possession of the ball for 60% of the game. Tennessee will be outmached offensively but will not look stupid doing it or quit before the game is over (a la the Dooley era).

Now, here is what's going to have to happen for that to not be true:

One of our corners or linebackers will have to make some big turnover recoveries and give Worley a very short field to try and score early.

Oregon is going to hit us hard and early with big plays. If this happens you can kiss our running game goodbye. We will have to become a passing offense to score points quickly. I fear Worley is not mentally competent or skilled enough to handle being down by big points early and this will lead to him making stupid decisions and throwing interceptions.

The ONLY way to counter this is to get some pick-6s or big fumble recoveries deep in Oregon territory.

I dont see Tennessee driving the ball all the way down the field for a score very many times (maybe once, probably not twice) due to Oregon's defense and also the crowd noise and the pressure of being down. The only way we keep it close is to be given a short field on offense.

If we do that to the point that we get a lead, we then need to run run run the football. The key is to keep the ball out of the hands of the Oregon offense.

If all that happens, we can keep it close and have a chance at winning this game.

I just sat though 7 minutes of College game day discussing how far Tennessee's program has fallen. My question is this:
Has Tennessee fallen further than our history can carry us?

No way. Remember that Alabama SUCKED for a decade before Nick Saban came.

A few good recruiting classes and a good coach can turn this program around.

I just hope our fanbase is patient. Jones has got the recruiting class and he knows how to win. Just a few more years and we are back. (But we ARE going to win today.. )

CBJ has already done more for Tennessee football than Dooley did in 3 years. It will turn around. But the painful times are not over yet.

Although I think we'll be fine, this is a legitimate question. If CBJ is the coach I think he is then we will be back to contending for the east in a few years.

This game reminds me of our trip to Miami. The Canes hadn't lost at home for years. No one gave a chance. It can happen.

BTW.......... ESPN said we have lost 16 in a row to ranked opponents. NCST was ranked when we beat them.

We are Tennessee, of course we'll be back, it starts this year! Just remember Rome wasn't built in a day. Its going to take time, we didn't get here overnight.

We all pretty much know what will happen today, all i want to see is 60 mins of no quit football from our Vols. At the end of the day, that's all we can ask for.

Go Vols!

If UT gets the same 2014 caliber of recruiting classes in 2015 and 2016 we will have rebuilt the foundation of the program and will be contending for the SEC title again.

Anything can happen. While Miami in 2003 is comparable to Oregon today, Tennessee in 2013 is nowhere near as talented as 2003 Tennessee was. We were a top 10 team in 2003 and had already beaten Florida on their field.

Oh yeah, and we had the Ice Man.

I'm going to laugh my butt off when we win this thing and Game Day already committed to go to North Dakota St. next week.

If the Vols let it get to that point especially early they are in big trouble. The last thing this team needs is pressure on Worley to make big plays passing.

Run all game long and short accurate passes with a few deep shots to North on play action. Perhaps a fade in the endzone to North or Croom. If the Vols can't run and move the chains with short passes, unless Worley has come into his own and can now make the throws he has missed the first two games, its going to be a tough game to watch IMO.

There are 40 different threads predicting the outcome of the game with everyone's opinion. Did you really have to start a thread with an opinion that is talking out of both sides of your mouth. You say we will not be able to sustain any long drives & then say if we get a lead we need to run the ball.
Next time find one of the other threads and post your wishy washy opinion rather than start a new one with it.

In my opinion, this game (not the Alabama game) is the hardest game on our schedule. Having to travel all the way to Oregon to play a #2 team in one of the loudest stadiums with a very unproven QB. If I had to pick one automatic loss on our schedule, its this game.

If we win this game we should be able to run the table, which of course is not reality.

They should try to win the game, never quit, dont look stupid or inept, and try hard not to get any key players injured. I'll be happy with that.

You dont have to have a long drive to run the football. We need to get a short field (start on the Oregon side of the field). Then run the football to chew clock, then score. This will make it so a 40 yard drive takes the same amount of time as an 80 yard drive with passing plays.

Furthermore I did predict we could have one long drive.

The biggest reason, IMO, this game is such a tough matchup is Mariota. With all the speedy skill players for this defense to account for they also have a QB who can outrun safeties. Thats what worries me the most honestly. This defense will have to be very disciplined just to keep them in check.

Watch for Mariota to break a few huge runs.

Also: If the Vols keep it in reach into the 4th and play hard and aggressive till the end, making a statement by still being in the game late i would be pleased.
