Tiger Woods needs to grow up

Well my take, I don't care for his antics, but at the same time, it's only an issue because of the nature of the game. And what I mean by that is, if we heard everything screamed and said on the football field, baseball field, basketball court, etc., then it would likely make what Woods is doing look mild.

Not condoning it by any means.

Turn your volume down... or turn it off all together whenever Tiger is playing.

Problem solved... :zeitung_lesen:

There is a major difference between golf and the sports you list. Golf is arguably the only remaining "gentleman's sport" where, for example, you call penalties against yourself... can't say I've ever seen that one in football or basketball. I'm often in favor of change when it comes to sports (e.g. adding the 3 pt shot and instant replay), as long as they don't detract from the original tradition of the game itself. IMO, I just don't think damn's, F-bombs, and throwing clubs belong in professional golf. And no, turning down the volume is not a solution.

Out of curiosity, how many of you have ever played any competitive golf?

He might well be, but he does not participate in a sport which showcases any athletic ability he possesses. When a 60 year old guy can come one bad shot away from winning the most prestigious tournament in the sport, it's pretty clear that you're not exactly talking about an athletic competition.

I need to see Tiger actually break a sweat and do something more physically demanding than swinging his arms to call him the "world's greatest athlete."

Not really a fair comparison. Tom Watson isn't exactly your garden-variety 60 year old. He's won the British Open 5 times, he's arguably the best wind player that's ever lived, and he nearly won the Open at the age of 59 with a combination of experience, guts, guile, extremely accurate driving, and a ridiculously hot putter for 3 out of 4 rounds. There are, as they say, horses for courses. He wouldn't have been able to come anywhere close a second-place finish, even given as well as he played that week, were it the U.S. Open or the Masters.

Tiger's swing, on the other hand, is built upon a whole hell of a lot of strength and flexibility. You'd have to be in pretty damned good shape to even attempt to emulate the way he gets through the ball.

Golfer Tiger Woods takes Ed Bradley behind the scenes of his after school program -- the "Tiger Woods Learning Center" -- which offers children a hands-on teaching curriculum.
