Nope because golfers can play competitively well into their 40s.

Anyone else think his career is essentially over?

Doubt it, but he used to have a violent swing with ridiculous torque and swing speed that started with his lower body. You can't swing that violent as you age, and recovery from injury is incomparable as you age.

only if he announces he's retiring.
I'm not even sure I'd buy that he was done if he "retired". He's only 34. He could take a couple of years off and still return to the tour with 5-7 more productive years ahead of him.

He's too competitive to just walk away, likely he is just going to have surgery and take the rest of the year off.

He could definitely still tie Nicklaus. I would be shocked to see him walk away right now for good.

Plausible with the whole deal with that Canadian doctor last week.

At this point, is there really anything that would surprise anybody about Tiger?

It's probably going to be a convo about the drugs and coupled with announcement he's taking the rest of the year off.

Maybe he wants the public to know that he is ready to start dating again?

Could be pulling a Jordan... or Chamberlain... or Clemens... or Armstrong... or Favre, etc, etc, etc.

Announcing retirement sure takes the pressure off of when/if he might play again.

if you exercise and stay in shape, you can recover pretty good from most injuries. Tiger would be able to play well into his 40's.

Bo Jackson should have exercised more.
