UT fans should feel very proud that arguably the greatest QB to ever play the game is a former Vol. That's a very cool thing.
But it doesn't change the fact that, despite some very impressive stats, Manning won all of one SEC title in his career, and nothing more. There are dozens of former SEC QBs who accomplished more than Manning did at the college level, Tebow being one of them.
I still think it was rather shortsighted of the Broncos to let him go in exchange for Peyton coming in. While Peyton Manning has been great the last two years and may well have another shot at a Super Bowl this year, fact of the matter is Peyton getting on in years for an NFL player. I wouldn't be surprised if he's looking at retirement to go to a coaching position or tv spot himself in two or three years.
They should have kept Tebow and used Peyton to mentor him.
I'll take it. Doesn't change the fact he made Bama his ***** on an annual basis.
AJ McCarron's performance against Tennessee was superior to Manning's vs Bama. And AJ won two national titles during his run, all while doing it in a tougher SEC than Manning had to deal with.
None of that means that McCarron will be a better NFL QB than Manning. On the flip side, Manning's otherworldly NFL production doesn't mean that his college accomplishments were terribly significant.
Manning won't be forgotten by any football fan, including college football fans. I certainly won't forget he owned Bama.
And McCarron's Bama squads beat Tennessee by 31, 31, and 35 and he was doing his preparation for LSU by the end of each game.
95 games into the rivalry, AJ McCarron is the most dominant quarterback in the history of the TSIO.
