What's the difference between this and hearing Bono go off on a rant every concert about how we should all be ashamed there are starving children in Africa?

I dont give a damn about his politics. I dont care that he skipped out on it. Good for him.

But lets not make this out to be some Earth shattering display of defiance.

To be frank, who gives a damn?

Its only unacceptable if an athlete stands up for their beliefs, but if a pop star does it, its cool?

I just think it's completely idiotic. If it were George Bush in office and Yzerman pulled some stunt like this, I'd feel the same way.

You're entitled to think that way the same as he is for the justification of his actions.

I have a buddy that plays for the Columbus Crew. They won the MLS Cup a few years ago, and got the opportunity to meet the POTUS.
I swapped a few emails with this friend, and he was genuinely excited to visit the White House, though he is a right-winger...that's his political view, not his soccer position.
Actually, he told me that he thought that Obama disrespected them. Said that he was trying to make a joke, but it didn't go over well when he was supposed to be praising the team that did with the championship. Apparently he said, "congrats to you guys, though I wish my Chicago Fire had won the whole thing. I'd much rather be honoring them today, but you guys won it, so again, congratulations."

Just wanted to share that story.

I think it's a little bit of grandstanding, but I still think he should do whatever he wants.
