Time To Officially...

cal played it's first 5 games like a national power and that backed up the media hype.

if you think nothing the cal program has accomplished merits a 'modicum' of respect then there isnt any point in arguing with you.

cal has a long football tradition beginning before tennessee even had a team, they had similar great years of success during tennessees neyland years and beyond. cal then had a few fantastic years among many poor ones with coaching controversies and all kind of issues plaguing the team.

tedford has turned a team that hit bottom, 0-10 that had lost to stanford several straight years and taken them to 5 bowl games in 5 years. a team that competes for 4 and 5 star recruits.

rebuilding a program back to greatness is not an easy task and the progress has been impressive to say the least.

lot of things to respond to here. . .

1) as much as I'd like to use our qb injury as a excuse, there is no rational argument to say that cal isn't the Iowa of the pac-10. we've never won anything of note and tend to choke late in the season.

2) i don't remember our program touting itself as a national player. ESPN might, but that's hardly Cal's fault. I'd say if you polled cal posters here and other places that 90% (even when we were ranked in the top-5) would have said we aren't an elite/top program.

3) We're on the books as a conference title. Until SC stops claiming their title in 2002 when they lost to WSU who also won the title, I'm not going to stop claiming 2006.

4) I agree tedford may not be the guy to take us to the next level. He's too conservative in big games and doesn't have the flexibility to make changes (particurally at qb) when everyone on earth realizes it needs to happen.

5) many teams can't beat SC and not just those in the pac-10 (the pac-10 has a far better record than the other bcs conferences against sc btw)

6) cal's tradition does not compare to Tenn. let's not turn this into a cal/tenn argument. both programs aren't exactly doing great here (yes i do realize you have a chance at the conference title, but guys do you really think your team is elite?).

Yes we believe the Tennessee program is an elite program. I wasn't aware you lost/gained elite status year by year or over 3-4 years.

But no - we don't believe we are a top 10 team this year if that's what you're asking.
