FWIW I coached basketball in Memphis. Had our football coach tell me Dooley never called or sent any assistants to the school. Actually he was high on Kiffin. One of our kids signed with Cincy when Butch was there. This coach stated Butch and his assistants were the absolute best at selling themselves and their programs. He went as far as calling him the most dynamic college coach he had ever been around...and that included Saban. So maybe this will calm your fears about CBJ.

Thanks for the link. Everything I read about CBJ and staff is that they are an exceptional staff. We will return to prominence under this staff.

Thanks for sharing the link. I hope we can land Malone & Mosley for the next four years. Thanks to this coaching & recruiting staff for persistence in the best talent to come & play for UT. We need to really give huge credit to these coaches for giving their time & effort for building this team back brick-by-brick. These coaches are away from their own families on a constant commitment to bring in the top talent in HS football to UT. My hat is off to these guys for a job well done by them so far this past year.

So Palardy is a Ford Taurus and all the other kickers are race cars? He came into this game as one of the best PK in CFB.

If that play had worked and we scored a TD to WIN then you'd be screaming for bUTch and his staff to get raises and a 2 year contract extention.

GREAT job for our coaches to be on the road working hard to keep our recruits commited and trying to bring in some more good talent and depth!

Keep on building our foundation coaches!!!

And had his worse game this season. Given the situation I liked the call to. Only other option would have been to punt. Had it worked we would have won the game.

For both kickers that night it looked like they were kicking bowling balls. There was no way he was making that FG in that weather. That's not a knock on Palardy but the ball wasn't travelling that night.

I was thinking you could put the best driver and pit crew in the world in a Pinto and he is not going to win any NASCAR races. In fact he would not even qualify.

:whistling:

My comment is not in response to Palardy or his kicking. I feel he has been a very good kicker. My comment in reference to the Coaches " best NASCAR driver and team" and players "Pinto and the inability to compete".

Yep, I noticed that too. It was cold, but I didn't think it was that cold. I actually thought Palardy may have had back spasms again or some other injury.

^This^ None of Palardy's KOs reached the EZ, and one barely got to the 20. His punts were low and short, and he had already missed a short FG and barely made the other, which glanced off one upright. The ball was apparently like kicking a cinderblock that night.

That was a great play call. If it had worked, we would have won. If the FG had been made, we still would have lost. Poor execution by the players.

Dooley had to focus on areas that he knew best which is a bigger and better recruiting area than Memphis...ATL. This was discussed for a while. Mem is known to have some shady HS coaches so it's not surprising. Dooley knew he couldn't afford to bring in players that have issues, and brought in on shady terms...ie kiffins class. CBJ has benefited from this as we can tell as he has had little major player issues in his first year. CBJ doesn't know the ins and outs of the south and it's recruiting yet. Kiffin was/is shady so of course he was all "about it bout it" in memphis, and why they liked him. CBJ is just to naive to know any better and just hope he doesn't get burned. If anything, one of Dooley's faults was knowing way to much about the SEC, and not being able to explain that knowledge in simple fan terms or "coach/salesman speak".

Let's face it this recruiting cycle for TN is an odd one all around and CBJ is benefiting from it...ie..abnormally high # of legacies and good TN talent plus the ability to sign higher # than the regular amount. Simple. We have a #2 class with what 31 or so players, and the other teams in the top 5 have #1bama (23 commits), #3 Mia (28), UGA (16), Aggies (18).

This was a good call given the situation. If we punted, it probably just ends up on the EZ. It was risky for a FG because of the distance and wind. It was just poorly thrown because the receiver was behind the DB. The end result was almost like a punt. Why not try to make a first down instead of punting?

Butch said later he felt Tn needed a TD there to win the game and that Vandys coverage on first FG made them think it would work. He was correct. A fg there does nothing but a 14-13 loss instead if a 14-10 loss. The fake was his best option.

Actually I liked the call...much as I did the 4th down pass to Smith in the GA game...remember that one?

Yeah I liked it too. If the holder doesn't throw it over his shoulder hard and as far as he did to Palardy then I think it may have worked...so is the game of football...call the play it fails and your an IDIOT...call the play and it works call him LES MILES :dunno:

That was a marginal call at best 4 n 19 no way that play gets 19 yrds. That was the problem with the call the percent for success was <=10%.

So OK thinking outside box but poor choice for success.

Yep. A cold, hard football is not going to be kicked well by most college kids.
