I'm not a star gazer, but it seems that, with the exception of Clemson's recent good fortune, those schools recruiting at a high level, i.e. Bammer, FSU, Ohio State, etc, are the ones who ultimately wind up playing for championships.
Even though UT is rated tenth in Scout's rankings, this year's recruiting class, at least outwardly, seems down from previous years for Butch's classes. If you look at Georgia's class for 2017 (which by the way just surpassed Bama for number one in Scout) they have about 20 four star guys which is about the same number of three stars we have. I just don't believe there are that many diamonds in the rough.
What's really a little unsettling is that this past year we had far superior talent to teams like Vandy and South Carolina, who, as you know, we lost to.
How are we going to compete with teams like Bammer and UGA when we're not recruiting anywhere near what they are currently, and we have proven that even when having close to equal, or equal talent, we can't beat? And even losing to SC, Vandy and Texas A&M.
Just some random thoughts.
