don't read message boards during the search. It will only get you excited, and then crush you. Kinda like blue balls.

0: History is a good indicator....... if said coach was a loser at his previous head coaching job move on!

To add, if the team he leaves sucks then becomes better after he leaves is a strong indicator that he is not a good choice. :banghead2:

That previous post is something that people searching for a new HC haven't placed a lot of stock in. I am not convinced that the University is looking for the best
HC candidate, but, rather the most convenient HC candidate. For example, when CPF was promoted to HC, it was more as a matter of convenience than he was the best person for the job. When LK was hired, that too seemed like a matter of convenience or desparation, if you want to call it that. When Dooley was hired, the University felt like Dooley was another clone of Vince Dooley. So, I am not convinced that the University is even thinking that the hire HAS to be a homerun hire. We all know that for the success of the football program, the hiring of the next HC DOES have to be a homerun. Or Tennessee will be an "also ran" for many years to come IMO.

Have fun reading all the crap people spew on message boards. But don't believe any of it until you've seen the press conference for yourself!:)

I'm doing a write up for my website on how to survive a coaching hire and was curious as to what you all would say are "maxims" to surviving a coaching hire. I almost feel like a veteran having been through a couple of these recently.

Things like:

1. Just because a coach is “entertaining” an offer doesn’t mean he is truly interested.

2. Just because a coach publicly says they aren't listening to offers doesn't necessarily mean they aren't through third parties.

3. Most of the time the media genuinely doesn’t know anything.

4. More rumors than you would think originate from the AD’s office.

5. The sexy name isn’t always the best hire.

What would you add?

6. If you endure Dooley for three years you must have
A homerun hire next or close your program!
