In an unexpected development in what already has been a turbulent offseason in Tennessee, the Titans and Jeff Fisher, the NFL's longest-tenured head coach, are preparing to part ways, SI.com learned Thursday afternoon.

According to an NFL source close to the situation in Tennessee, the move could be announced as early as Friday, although it's uncertain if Fisher's departure will be termed a firing, a resignation or a mutual parting of ways.

Though information about Fisher's situation was scarce Thursday, it was confirmed by a league source that he will not return to coach the team in 2011, contrary to what was previously expected. Fisher was said to be in the process of negotiating the terms of his departure with Titans owner Bud Adams.

Bud Adams is the problem, not Jeff Fisher.

The sooner he get's out of running this team, the better.

I mean I would have been semi-okay with firing Fish as soon as the season ended but what has me royally pissed off is the fact we waited so damn long to do it. Tell me, who the hell are we going to hire and who would want to come here.

As someone who has been going to every Titans game since they came to Nashville, I do not know what to make of this. End of an era for sure.

I hate to see Fisher go. I like to root for the Titans ,but I guarantee they won't find a better coach this late in the off season better than Jeff Fisher.

I honestly believe owning the Titans team is like a hobby for Bud Adams. I don't think dude is for real.

Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher, or Tony Dungy......If you are actually worth a flip, Bud, you go after one of those 3....
