'25 TN RB Daune Morris (USC commit)

Might be interested, just haven't seen any desire to visit or set up a visit,Probably just my opinion but he has visited in the past so the inability to get him to schedule "to me" signals he wants to get out of the state. Nothing wrong with that but if a local kid doesn't take the time to visit spending alot of time trying to get him back again probably isn't a good use of time or money. Again, JMO.

I made a similar argument with how we waste money on recruiting kids from Mater Dei HS out here in California.

I think we’re 0-20 the last 3 years for Mater Dei kids? Th

I don’t know anything about this kids background other than him being related to Boo Carter. But some kids just want different scenery.
This kid is really good but he seems pretty locked in to playing out here in Cali.

Honestly the he transfer portal maybe a better option anyway for RB this time around. Or maybe there will be a late bloomer somewhere we can get in the 11th hour?

To be fair, we’re not wasting any money on Morris if he isn’t visiting.

Yes, but it’s time that could be spent somewhere else on someone else.
I just don’t consider phone calls/texts a finite resource. Especially with 24 commitments already. At this point, we’re only focusing on a few players. We need a RB. He’s a dynamic RB who fits this offense. His cousin is in the team. He’s committed to a school his family can’t drive to. Keep calling until you can get him to visit. If he doesn’t, he won’t be the first recruit a coach has recruited who went to another school. Nothing lost.

A side benefit is not having to listen to THOSE that would diss our staff for NOT paying attention to an instate recruit right up to signing day. Especially at an instate school with a history of high level players.

Not to mention posturing for potential portal position in our new world. Might get culture shock in CA and those long flights to cold places might get old as well as flight costs for family for HOME games.

Gotta be some variable Momma Bear level of communication for every recruit.

How do we not have better traction with Daune Morris?? Did we slow play him? His high ankle sprain give our coaches pause?
Well TN wanted a bigger back to go with Justin Baker and they told him as much. Then in late June and early July, they pivoted to best available which is Morris. He felt slighted and Tennessee continues to try to work things there without much traction.

seems like the staff made the mistake of telling this kid the truth. Unfortunately in recruiting sometimes you can’t say we are after something different and then come back and say never mind

We all know things change and are fluid but it’s obvious they just didn’t get the big back and are coming back

But at 17 not everyone does

That’s okay, we keep looking. RB’s are easier now with the portal. Great backs everywhere on bad teams

IMO

You said what I was thinking. But I think telling the truth is more important now with the portal. Our coaches did the right thing (not that you were saying otherwise).

This kid is a talent. I hope he gets over the hurt feelings and watches what Dylan Sampson is doing in this offense, then decides maybe playing with his cousin Boo Carter close to home in the SEC is better than going all the way to California to play in the Big 10.

If this guy was from Georgia or Alabama he would’ve already committed to the instate school. At times it feels like Tennessee kids look for a reason not to go to Tennessee.

I’m surprised a late bloomer hasn’t come up on their radar yet.

There has to be some kid down there in the south that is tearing it up as a senior that’s under the radar but has all the measurables.

Oakland doesn’t seem to show Tennessee much love.
- Jacoby Steven’s (LSU)
- Jordan James (Oregon)
- Smith brothers ( forgot where they went)
- Horton (Miami)
- Woody W (Oklahoma)

They ain’t feeling the in-state pride at that school

So many people in Murfreesboro aren’t from here originally, so there is no real love for the instate school 🤷🏻‍♂️

What years did these guys commit to other schools? Bc Oregon, LSU, and OU have all been better programs than Vols post-Fulmer / pre-Heup.

Oh they were certainly better, but do you think it would be different now?

Jordan committed to UGA over UT. Then they said “git “. Oregon came and got him.

A lot of Tennessee kids just want to leave Tennessee for college- regardless of how good they are.

Which I’m fine with because give me James Pearce, Davis Sanders, Isiah Campbell etc in North Carolina any day if I had to choose.

A lot of kids from every state want to leave their home state for college. That’s what so many refuse to understand.
