'22 TN ATH/RB Dallan Hayden (Ohio State commit)

As far as I've heard, Hayden isn't even communicating with our staff. I just don't get how people say they don't want to hear about kids that are committed elsewhere in one thread, then talk about (unrealistically) getting a kid committed elsewhere (that doesn't talk to our coaches) in another thread. VN is kooky sometimes.

We had Rodney Garner before we beat Missouri also. Beating Missouri isn't changing anything with regards to DL.
What we’ve been watching Garner do with this DL this season has certainly caught my attention. Who amongst us would have thought the DL group would be this effective in light of the defections and Solomon not really playing? If you’re a talented hs DL prospect and want to work hard to reach your potential, who is the better option than playing for Garner?

1. Hayden’s dad make his situation different.
2. People don’t want to hear players being built up like they are superstars just because they are from Tennessee but going somewhere else.
3. Simple really. People would like to have Hayden and asked a question about, if considering who his dad is, if he might consider Tennessee since the RBs are NOW putting up big numbers. Immediately get told of course he would not. Other players from Tennessee that fans consider can be replaced by equal talent from other states and are not worried about constantly get posts about how awesome they are so Tennessee is going to regret that they rejected them. Big difference.

I think we are likely 4-1 if we had any semblance of a pass rush, and just maybe 5-0. It is a little disturbing that we only have 4 sacks from our DL thru 5 games. I'm pleased with our rush defense and our ability to fill gaps quickly, save for the Florida game, but we have to put pressure on the QB to beat anyone on our schedule we probably shouldn't, on paper. I guess that notion, and that the idea that the only really good team we faced totally gashed us, defensively, gives me pause to heap excessive praise on Garner and the DLine, just yet.

At the same time, this same DLine only produced 13 sacks in 10 games, last year, and 10 of those 13 sacks belonged to guys no longer on the roster, so it's perhaps fair to say Garner is coaching without a full deck by comparison. It will be interesting to see how the two compare after a full season.

I’m not telling you anything you don’t know, but Im
Not sure it’s fair to measure Garner on sack count. We’ve been in 425 with a lot of TE coverage in many passing snaps. Both Baron and Young have played technically beyond their talent/experience. Neither have the speed or strength to dominate. Baron has regularly set the edge on the rpo key, and forced a pull, and still pressed the quarterback. Young beat experienced tackles on technique each of the last two weeks. Butler has collapsed his holes and forced action to LB’s when he hasn’t made plays behind the line. I’m blown away by their technique, discipline, and (most of all) their stamina. Seeing that line hold up for four quarters against so many possessions is amazing. They don’t have the rotation to do that. They were gassed at the Swamp, but they also played a huge, rotating OL. I couldn’t be happier with how these guys are playing. I also have to note that Banks using the two young safeties last week was a brave move. Those guys made plays all over the field. This is not a very talented D, but they are very well coached.

None of the Hayden boys have shown much interest in Tennessee, so I didn't think he would sign with us anyway. We will be OK with who we have and others we sign. Time to let this one drop off the page.

All good points. It will be interesting to see if RG still has the recruiting chops he once did, and how it will affect his own position group. We need difference-makers because Luke you said, we have very little talent, and even less depth.

This being a big difference is a matter of opinion. For most of us, there is really no difference at all at this point. The whole legacy thing gets really overblown. Particularly in regards to our Vols.

Ohio State RBs are putting up numbers NOW too is the thing. If we was committed to one of the non major schools I would feel better about our chances.

Pretty much. His dad has also been positive about things and re tweeted the Heupel post game locker room video from yesterday's game. It couldn't hurt if dad is in his ear.

Aaron is always positive about UT. He loves his alma mater but will always support his kids in their decisions to choose a school of their choice.

I'm sure he does. Still doesn't mean dad's excitement couldn't at least get another look for TN. Epically with some results as well.

Just to be honest he doesn’t interfere in things like that. He allows his boy their own independence with their college decisions. As said before all the legacy stop was an overblown thing.

Sure, its not top of the food chain important. But in the back of their mind somewhere, theyve thought about following in dads footsteps.

I would assume a great selling point would be how valuable being a VFL in Tennessee can be from an NIL and post grad perspective. His dad should have plenty of friends that can attest to that power. This is a recruit that I think NIL could help us.

There's a major difference in NIL earning power being a freshman RB from Tennessee at Ohio State and a legacy freshman RB from Tennessee at Tennessee.
