'26 TN CB Justin Hopkins (Minnesota commit)

Position of need, in state kid who was high on us. Who knows ? Long way to December...

We are off to a great start in 25. But seems like we still struggle to close or maintain momentum, at certain positions (ahem) OL, WR, and Safety/CB. Even esp after multiple visits, and being the perceived leader.

Who knows what happened? Kid seemed to love TN, now its Minnesota. I will say we have a big time opportunity to ink a very good 5-7 class in 2025. Lets go close.

If this kid is picking Minnesota this early, it’s because he didn’t have a commitable offer from Tennessee. Given the other finalists, I’m guessing that’s the case.
certainly possible. but don't want to conjecture to that end. seems like staff engaged with him, and he visited multiple times. specifically martinez.

that said. pj fleck is many things, including a bit over the top. but he is young, experienced, and gasp - dynamic.

truth is we need to be after best of the best. whomever that is, instate or not.

What is wrong with the three WR in this incoming class? Not to mention the recovery from last class? Let’s go through spring with 3 of them before we trash them.

Who trashed them? We had two classes leave this past year. Its clear to me that this offense, and our WR room, precedent to the purge was lacking in talent.

We were lucky DSamp was a generationap guy.

I'm saying we have 7 4 and 5 star guys, and we have to continue to stack those kind of players, just like Georgia, florida, and Bama does.

there is no reason this program, and offensive mind should t be fighting top 100 WR off with a stick.

What was your reference to STRUGGLE at the WR position above supposed to mean? Might need to see all four, 3 in spring and 1 over the summer before we take anybody not a no-brainer. Their fit will be largely dependent on the scheme we install in the post dominating D line, post stud RB era.

The scheme is usually installed around the talent. CJH was a qb and im sure he wants to pass more. He just missed on his evaluation or the WR coach is in over hish head. Time will tell but he wants to move the ball down the field. He hasn’t turned into Tom Osborne.

@allvolrecruiting what's up with this?
He's on the smaller side imo. You just locked Boo in (well let's just say that for this sake. Nobody ever knows with each offseason anymore lol) so don't have to reach on an undersized versatile DB. Boo was different bc he brought a different level of physicality that wasn't flag-worthy IMO. And he just has that dawg mindset of I'm better than you and I will do what it takes to show that. If you like Hopkins on the outside, then you want bigger guys, especially with how much this defense has them on islands. PJ Fleck has done well with DBs so wish him the best and he made probably the best decision for him. Hadn't heard him seriously linked to Tennessee in a while

Obviously wasn’t a take. Nobody willfully chooses Minnesota over us, especially not an in-state kid.

Or maybe Minnesota paid him more. I don't think you can chalk this up to not being a take anymore in the age of NIL. Probably the more accurate statement is he wasn't a take for us at the price Minnesota was willing to pay.

Idk. Clearly we will pay guys we want fair value. I would imagine if Minnesota paid him more they had to pay him a good bit more. I think the scenario that we just weren’t that interested is more likely but I guess it’s possible.
