'19 TN CB Maurice Hampton

probably burrrll on this list, maybe you could debate bush and fields? this kid though seems legit.

i think most would say if we could get Hampton, Bush and Fields....that'd be niiiiiiice.

I know nobody really knows except maybe the coaches, he doesn't have the ratings the others have but that may be because he committed already.

Or that he is expected to be drafted in baseball and has a good chance of never playing football at the college level

Yes, but I actually was more impressed with what Coach V did this year than the last 2 coaches did in their 8 or 9 years combined.

Edit: Well, except for the mini-collapse in the last 2 series

Certainly agree with you there. Coach V did a nice job given a pretty poor roster and possibly the worst baseball facilities in the SEC outside of Missouri. I thought they did a nice job with the pitching staff/rotation and that the team played hard and battled all through the season.

But man, we’re just not very talented....no power in the lineup, poor fielding, just no studs outside of maybe Lipcius who was necessarily playing out of position at shortstop.

I hope the hype about Vitello being an elite recruiter is real and that he can go get a couple of big bats and a stud pitcher or two very quickly (admittedly haven’t even seen where we are in recruiting this cycle).

I’m not sure what Serrano was doing the last few years. For example, I know Wil Dalton very well, the kid who just led #1 Florida in homeruns and RBIs (despite struggling the last 4-5 weeks).....he’s one of my son’s best lifelong friends, grew up right here in SpringHill, Tn. Wil was the Williamson County and Middle Tennessee baseball player of the year two years ago. Kid bleeds orange and would’ve crawled to Knoxville had UT offered him.....and Serrano didn’t even give the kid a second look after making initial contact with him.

I hope and pray that Vitello can recognize/evaluate talent in his own backyard and is scouring the state to find and sign talent like Serrano either couldn’t or wouldn’t do. Vandy has been and continues to take the best talent out of the state (along with other SEC teams)....Vitello needs to make a significant dent into that soon and eventually turn that around ASAP.

both good points. the only real knox on hampton is his size, he's a little on the short side. but apparently plays 'bigger'.

i think it's safe to say that the staff has made him a priority though. he's probably higher on the board than a couple of the other guys.

Knox? The KNOX on him is he's short? Are you making fun of him by bringing up a taller in state prospect? hahahaha :)

Totally serious here and no sleight to the kid but why are some of you jonesing so hard for this prospect? Sounds like he is going to play baseball and I don't see anything that really stands out more than all the other CB's we are in on.

I agree. Also, he should play baseball if hes projected first round.

For me if pruitt & company are jonesing for him then I am. Hes are hard commit to LSU but they are trying hard to get him on campus

According to Rocky Top Insider podcast pruitt absolutely loves this guy. They said pruitt plans to recruit him til he either gets him on campus or he blocks pruitts phone number!

Yeah they had Blake Morgon of SEC Country on this week's show. He said they're still going hard after him and Bill Norton both

“Interestingly on Hampton: Tennessee and Hampton continue to have regular conversations. Hampton hasn't been to campus at this point, but that's not because of a lack of interest. Hampton has been busy playing baseball this summer and that has limited his opportunities to visit places. The question is can the Vols get him on campus this fall?”

Are we still pursuing Maurice Hampton? Seems like a good fit from a position need, size and in state kid. Haven’t heard his name much recently.

Callahan:

Yes, Tennessee still is involved there. Probably still a long shot until he actually visits the Vols. And I'm a little skeptical of his ability to play cornerback in college — LSU thinks he's a safety, and from the film I saw of him recently, he looks like he's around 200 pounds — but he's a good athlete and probably could help any team somewhere, so I would expect Tennessee to keep recruiting him. I'm also not certain that he'll make it to a college campus next year, because he's a good enough baseball player that he might be chosen early in the MLB draft next year and have a chance to sign a pretty lucrative pro contract right out of high school.

The reason you don't hear a lot about (or from) Hampton is that he rarely gives interviews. There's already some talk of him taking some official visits to other schools, though — Florida, Ole Miss and others are still involved — so you might start to hear a little more about him this season.
