'24 TN DL Carson Gentle (Tennessee)

Yall are right. CG isn't fast. But he has tremendous short area burst. And he does everything, and I mean everything, with violence and power. He laid out several times to make tackles. And guys weren't bouncing off him or running through arm tackles. When he gets hold.of you, you're going down.

I can't believe anyone could watch his tape and not see everything I just stated.

Kids elite.

If he is elite then why isn’t his offer list much better?

Would you consider Michael Penix Jr elite?
He has developed into being elite. It takes time and hard work. He has put in the work. It also helps when you dont have to combat SEC defenses. I think he could play in the SEC though

Really like how athletic this young man is for the position that he will play here. Moves really well.

He did have a Georgia offer and did an official visit? Wouldnt you consider that an elite offer? Notre Dame?

And he has told everyone that he has shut down his recruitment.

Someone already broke down his measurables comparing them to an elite NFL d lineman.

Why are you so against giving this young man any credit? Or the coaching staff?

Because that’s what he does. Someone makes a bold statement, and he has to be devil’s advocate so he can try to make himself appear to be knowledgeable. He’s entitled to his opinions, but his smug answers are very tiresome.

No sorry I don’t consider his offer list as elite. Does that mean he won’t be elite? Absolutely not. I hope he is. I just don’t see elite in his film. Some others do. Ok he **** down his recruitment. That’s good.

A fan on a message board comparing his measurables to NFL DL is beyond dumb imo. I mean I think he is a solid player no doubt. I trust the staff. I just think we can do better. I think the main reason people are talking about him is because he is an instate guy. I would be willing to bet if he were from Iowa say, people wouldn’t be bringing up elite.

There is always the ignore button if you cannot handle others opinions. Plenty have me on ignore.

I would take Carson Gentle wherever he was from. Same reason I wanted that Navorro kid from South Dakota.

Gentle is an elite wrestler at McCallie. He knows leverage and he is tough. He's going to work. He's an incredible athlete. At McCallie he appears to be playing LB, DL, and TE so he's learning multiple positions and roles and has the ability to do so. I don't care if his only other offer is UTC - the kid can play and I think he has it upstairs and the work ethic to become a great player. Tennessee can give him the tools and expertise to make him faster and stronger if he wants it, and I think he does.

After 3 schools and 6 years? Sure. Offer lists usually tell the story way more often than not. So what’s your point? That the services and all the other big time schools are all wrong?
Point is, you would have said the exact same thing about Penix Jr, period

I put a lot of weight into offer list, as well...you are right, it's very telling more times than not...way moreso than rankings, imo; however, in the end, I ALWAYS defer to someone like Rodney Garner, who has more knowledge in a fingernail about elite and not elite, than you and me combined, over five lifetimes...I'll also defer to him over the likes of Chad Simmons, Mike Farrell, Josh Newberg, etc, as well.

Point is, you would have said the EXACT SAME THING about Omar Norman-Lott...a kid that Rodney Garner pursued out of high school, to multiple colleges, over multiple years...until he finally landed him. And, Norman-Lott is showing out...in the SEC. So, are you saying Rodney Garner is wrong? You saying he don't know the difference between elite and not elite? Maybe you're right...maybe the likes of Mike Farrell and Chad Simmons know more than Garner. I'm willing to take that bet. If Rodney Garner thinks a kid is good enough to play in the SEC, which is where elite players play, then ABSOLUTELY I believe thay are elite, also.

agree with this-but in my opinion, Charles Power is the best non-coach/media personality at evaluating talent. You will notice that the quality of ratings from his former employer went down when he left for his current company.
Many (not all) of the guys at rating services are more "fan boys" than talent evaluators. That does not make them bad people--but they know very little about what really an exceptional football player-particularly for OL/DL/LB positions. Charles Power's evaluations consistently show that he has watched and comprehended game film. He is not perfect (nor are any coaches), but he is pretty good.

Charles Power rating for Carson Gentle is 89.

I'll take Garner's eval over ALL of them, combined, any day...even if he's wrong.

But, I agree, there's a couple of them that know what they're talking about.

Gentle is an elite wrestler at McCallie.
Looked up his wrestling stats from last year. 31-5 and a third place finish in the D2 state Tournament. Those are not “elite” and won’t earn him any mention on a national level whereas Navarro is top 10 ranked nationally which is “elite”. Doesn’t mean Gentle won’t be successful at UT and the wrestling experience is usually helpful training, especially for linemen.

What impressed me was Gentle also played in some basketball games last year at McCallie. I don’t recall ever seeing an athlete playing basketball and also wrestling during the same season at a school with top level athletic programs.

I’m also a big believer in CRG so any recruit he takes has the potential to do well if they avoid injury and embrace his coaching.
